  • About the Role Join the China Office team as the Coordinator, Research and Research Training (China) and become a key player in driving the University of Melbourne's cutting-edge research initiatives forward. Based in Beijing, and reporting directly to the Country Manager, China, you'll be at the forefront of shaping local graduate research recruitment efforts and fostering collaborations with prestigious universities in China. Your role will involve advising on research opportunities, managing inquiries, and providing exceptional customer service to stakeholders ranging from prospective researchers to government agencies. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of university policies and China's research landscape. This position offers you an exciting opportunity to work within a global network, with autonomy and proactive initiative valued.

    Responsibilities include:

  • Coordination of University profiling and interview sessions at research events and PhD recruitment fairs.
  • Assisting Melbourne supervisors in attracting high-quality graduate researcher applications, especially through the CSC scholarship program.
  • Managing relationships with prospective graduate researchers and families from initial contact to onboarding.
  • Maintaining updated contact databases for prospective graduate researchers.
  • Collaborating with Marketing and Communications teams to execute targeted online and offline campaigns supporting graduate research recruitment in China.
  • Who we are looking for We're seeking an enthusiastic individual who is adaptable, and with a drive to take initiative. You will thrive both autonomously and collaboratively within a team setting. You will have a thorough understanding of the academic landscape for Graduate Researchers, coupled with familiarity in academic and student administration practices pivotal to graduate research. Your sound judgement and a keen cross-cultural insight will be essential. You will use your exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders while adeptly managing relationships and expectations.

    You will also have:

  • Degree-level qualification with relevant work experience, or a comparable mix of experience and education/training.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, capable of offering creative solutions and negotiating outcomes.
  • Demonstrated organisational and planning skills, adept at prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capacity to synthesise and analyse data to inform program development.
  • Ability to analyse data for program development purposes.
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills, with experience in effective communication across various roles.

    Your new team - Student and Scholarly Services – Offshore Office – China Team The University's offshore offices provide high-order representation and engagement for the University in their geographical areas of responsibility. They support the University's marketing, student recruitment and admissions functions by disseminating information, co-ordinating communication activities and providing support to the University's education representatives; they also support linkages and academic relationships with research, industry, and business institutions; they support alumni relationships, and they provide on the ground assistance to visiting University staff.

    The China Office team contributes to the strategic and operational management of the University partnership with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and China-based institutional partners with the goal of supporting the growth and success mutually beneficial research collaboration and research training activities.

    The China Office team also supports the University's engagement relationships with government agencies and departments, companies, institutions, and organisations, from the knowledge, innovation, and education sectors.
