This temporary, full-time position is available from September 3, 2024 (or earlier) until March 31, 2025.

This position requires travel between Douglas College locations. Regular hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The Role

The Compensation Analyst supports the delivery of compensation programs and services at the College by performing duties such as participating in job evaluation and salary administration processes, conducting related research and data analysis, preparing documentation and reports, maintaining systems and records and developing tools and resources. The Compensation Analyst supports job evaluation processes including reviewing submissions, organizing documentation, evaluating jobs and providing support to the job evaluation committee. The Compensation Analyst assists the Compensation Specialist by providing guidance and related subject matter expertise to administrators and the HR team, participating on assigned project teams, maintaining job descriptions, and ensuring the effective organization of compensation documentation

Responsibilities

· Provides advice and guidance to HR colleagues and administrators with respect to compensation programs and services;

· Supports BCGEU staff job evaluation processes by gathering, reviewing and organizing documentation for committee review and communicating job evaluation results;

· Represents the interests of the College as a member of the staff Joint Job Evaluation Committee, rating jobs as required. May act as the Committee Co- Chair on behalf of the Compensation Specialist, as needed;

· Performs a variety tasks related to the development and maintenance of excluded jobs and compensation systems such as gathering and analyzing internal and external data, conducting evaluation/benchmarking, supporting excluded salary administration and related administrative tasks;

· Provides guidance on job design as well as the creation of the College's job descriptions. Ensures job descriptions are well-written and align with department guidelines;

· Conducts a variety of compensation-related information gathering and analysis. Documents findings, summarizes information and provides recommendations;

· Maintains the effective organization of compensation records including job descriptions, job evaluation information and other analysis;

· Ensures the College's HR information systems reflect up-to-date job description titles, reporting relationships, classifications and other information necessary for effective maintenance;

· Assists with research and analysis in support of collective bargaining as well as the implementation of negotiated changes to collective agreements once ratified;

· Works collaboratively with HR colleagues and others across the College to ensure coordinated compensation services. This includes gathering information, proactively sharing information and responding to queries regarding compensation procedures and processes in a timely manner;

· Researches best practices in compensation. Provides input into the development and streamlining of compensation policy and processes;

· Performs other work as assigned, including committee work;

· Actively models the Douglas College Core Competencies.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

· A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline, and two to three years of related experience supporting compensation processes; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered;

· HR Generalist experience would be an asset, as would experience in a unionized environment;

· Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the BC Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Code;

· Knowledge of the principles and practices of compensation, with an emphasis on job evaluation and job description writing;

· Solid critical thinking and analytical skills along with the ability to summarize relevant data;

· Ability to use spreadsheets, databases and word processing software at a proficient level for data analysis and reporting;

· Respectful and collaborative orientation in interactions with others, including union representatives and external parties;

· Strong verbal communication skills with ability to clearly articulate compensation policies and processes and support recommendations;

· Solid business writing skills with ability to relay clear, concise and accurate information;

· Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan and carryout assignments independently;

· Dealing effectively with conflicting expectations and resistance;

· Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information;

· Demonstrated abilities that align with the Douglas College Core Competency Framework.
