Note: This position is further supported through external funds to offer a $16/hour wage. Non-work study students may apply as well. Percentage of time that could be remote (0-100%): 50-100% Weekly virtual meetings, community garden site(s) check-ins/upkeep, outreach documentation, quality of programming and deliverables (e.g., social media curation, container garden distribution, campus garden management, annual reporting, outreach and marketing)

Method to assess remote work: Quality of follow through and engagement regarding key position responsibilities and deliverables. Co-coordinators will do a mix of the same work (e.g., outreach and support of CGC sites; planting, maintenance of CGC raised beds, program planning, development of educational materials) and divvy up other duties based on interests and expertise to ensure staff parity and high-quality CGC programming. Staff facilitate any needed pivot of CGC programming amid Covid19 impacts on community and food security, social distancing, and/or reduced volunteership throughout the gardening season.

Job Description

  • Community Garden Connections (CGC) seeks creative, collaborative work- study eligible students to co-coordinate this on-going local garden- education initiative.
  • CGC is committed to building local capacity to grow food and address issues of food insecurity related to climate change impacts, personal and communal health, and resiliency (https:// www. antiochne.edu/cgc/).
  • This position works closely with additional CGC Co-Coordinators and faculty to support existing community garden sites (70 beds total) located at social service agencies/nonprofits in the City of Keene.
  • To supplement the food grown at these agency sites, CGC manages a 1–acre+ demonstration garden in Westmoreland, NH in collaboration with the County of Cheshire.
  • CGC also addresses food insecurity on Antioch's campus through care of the Antioch Campus Garden and preservation of grown produce for use in CGC- sponsored Community Soup Days (on hiatus during Covid 19 and campus closure).
  • Some responsibilities are to: design, implement and evaluate educational workshops;
  • foster relationships and support for CGC garden sites;
  • build raised garden beds and design related educational events;
  • educate and communicate with partners about gardening and food preparation;
  • prepare and host Community Soup Days (not applicable for summer season/campus closure);
  • assist in the maintenance of the Antioch Campus Gardens (rain garden and vegetable) and Westmoreland Demonstration Garden (as needed);
  • strengthen volunteership at the Westmoreland site through “garden parties” and community events (as needed); and co-coordinate all other necessary moving parts to this multifaceted initiative.
  • Other important aspects of this position are to contribute to community outreach through the Antioch webpage, social media, local/regional press, and annual reporting;
  • collaborate with local non-profits and organizations in the Monadnock Region of southwestern NH who are engaged in similar work; and creatively pursue relevant service projects that address community-identified interests and fulfill CGC's mission to increase access to food and to enhance community resiliency.

  • Likes to and works well with a variety of people.
  • Self-directed and motivated to move the project forward.
  • Willing to learn new skills.
  • Gardening, familiarity with food justice, environmental education, culturally responsive education, grant writing and/or evaluation experience preferred though not required.
  • Possibly interested in continuing beyond the position end date.
