DUTIES

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Career Services Office, the Community Engagement Coordinator will serve as liaison between TRU Law and the greater legal community within Kamloops, BC, and Canada. The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead the planning, coordination, and successful execution of career-related events and programs, fostering strong partnerships with employers, institutions, and students.

This role ensures seamless event logistics, provides strategic oversight of outreach initiatives, and enhances student and employer engagement through effective communication, networking, and promotional efforts. By managing technical, administrative, and financial aspects, this role ensures a comprehensive career services experience that connects students with valuable professional opportunities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The Community Engagement Coordinator will:

  • Manage financial operations, including payment tracking and invoicing, and oversee general administrative tasks, supporting event staff, work-study students, and handling event logistics.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, recruiters, and students, ensuring regular communication and networking opportunities through events and outreach initiatives.
  • Offer career-related advice to students, particularly in areas such as professional etiquette, recruitment procedures, and job application materials.
  • Engage with students primarily via email to address individual needs and support their career development.
  • Plans and executes training sessions and mock interviews for students, enhancing their job search, self-marketing and job interviewing skills.
  • Lead the planning, organization, and execution of major events such as career fairs, mock interviews, and cross-institutional programs, coordinating logistics, technical requirements, and communications with all stakeholders.
  • Manages promotional materials, newsletters, and student resources, including managing targeted outreach efforts to increase student and employer participation.
  • Oversee data entry, technical support, and platform management for systems like CARE, collaborating with IT and tracking student and employer engagement metrics to enhance service offerings.
  • Facilitate and manage CSO training sessions, student orientations, and webinars; develop resources to support student preparation, career navigation, and employer engagement.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Education

  • Post-Secondary Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience

  • Two years related administrative experience, preferably with a law background and in a post-secondary environment.
  • Skills & Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, tactfully and discreetly under pressure, with a diverse range of people from students, faculty and staff as well as a wide range of external contacts within the legal community.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, in a confidential environment.
  • Advanced computer knowledge with a high level of understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web management systems.
  • Ability to deal with all stakeholders with courtesy, discretion and tact; ability to deal with difficult situations appropriately.
  • Ability to project manage and coordinate committees.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work while managing multiple, diverse and competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail in a research and teaching environment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as photocopiers and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to prepare reports on a diverse array of matters for internal use and to submit to external parties.
  • Ability to track budget and prepare summary financial reports.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
