Communications Officer

Department of Earth Sciences, South Parks Road, Oxford.

We are looking to appoint a Communications Officer to support the delivery of communications projects and initiatives relating to Oxford EARTH (Equitable Access to sustainable Resources for a Thriving Habitat), a new multidisciplinary research project centred around sustainable natural resources, and lead by the Department of Earth Sciences. This role will work closely with all involved departments, as well as communications teams in these areas, the wider University community, and with external partners.

The post holder will report to the Outreach and Communications Manager in the Department of Earth Sciences, and be part of the Oxford EARTH Operations Team. The post holder will be responsible for the practical implementation of Oxford EARTH's communication outputs. In this varied role, you will create new and engaging website content and digital media posts, coordinate internal communications across the Oxford EARTH network, assist with promoting and running events, support the development of collaborative networks inside and outside of the University, and identify opportunities to progress the team's objectives internally and externally.

This role requires the successful candidate to be available to work flexibly, including outside of normal office hours and at weekends on occasion.

About you

You must be educated to a degree level, or equivalent professional experience, have experience of working in a communications or marketing role, including producing content across a range of communications channels (digital, print and social), have good IT skills and knowledge of key aspects of web management.

You will be a self-starter - highly motivated, driven and able to take own initiative whilst working as part of a wider team to achieve objectives. You will have well-developed interpersonal, advocacy and diplomacy skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of diverse stakeholders. You must also have experience of assimilating complex information and ideas quickly, and the ability to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal or written English. Finally, you must have availability to work flexibly, including outside normal office hours and at weekends on occasion.

For full details, please see the job description. The deadline for applications is midday on 10 March 2025. Interviews will be held on the 2 April 2025.

You will be required to upload a CV and a Supporting Statement as part of your application.

Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in research posts in the Department.
