    The Program

Fire to Flourish is a transdisciplinary action-research program that partners with bushfire-affected communities to develop and implement a community-led model for strengthening bushfire resilience and disrupting structural disadvantage. The program brings together researchers from social sciences, business, medicine and urban design disciplines, as well as practice-based social impact practitioners, across Australia. The program team works closely with local communities for the program design and delivery, and also partners with institutional stakeholders to increase adoption of program insights and outputs and drive widespread change.

The DisasterWISE Communities Network is a growing movement of people who are building disaster resilience through self-determination and community-led action. While in its early stages of development, this community-led national learning network is seeded by Monash University and the Fire to Flourish (F2F) Program as it grows and becomes sustainable by the end of 2025.

The DisasterWISE Communities Network connects people to learn from each other and drive systemic change to strengthen disaster resilience within Australian communities. This includes bringing diverse voices from communities and organisations together, to share stories and insights as the network membership grows and the ecosystem matures. Relationships forged through these processes are expected to respectfully challenge current paradigms, and create pathways to influence policy, practice and broader systems change.

    The Opportunity

Bring your passion for storytelling, effective two-way communication, and commitment to amplifying community voice to the role of Communications Officer - DisasterWISE. Take responsibility for a broad range of communication and administrative tasks to ensure information is effectively and efficiently developed and provided between staff, stakeholders, network members and the broader community.

With a strong ability to write, edit and produce communications for a variety of traditional and emerging media channels, you will be executing communication plans for projects and initiatives through identifying the DisasterWISE community and their communication needs. You will also excel in engaging diverse audiences.

As an integral member of the DisasterWISE team you will be working in collaboration with other members of the Fire to Flourish, DisasterWISE, MSDI and Monash marketing team. You will also be responsible for the integration of all marketing and communications activities, so that overall consistency is a feature of all corporate messages.

We welcome your forward-thinking, community-led, inclusive, and collaborative ways of working which are complemented by your professionalism and strategic approach in this role. A willingness and demonstrated experience in working alongside community is essential. If you are pro-community, adaptive and know how to centralise stories for purpose and impact, then this is the communications role you have been looking for.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.

Join the pursuit of our purpose to build a better future for ourselves and our communities -#ChangeIt with us.

Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments more easily.

Your employment is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of all pre- employment and/or background checks required for the role, as determined by the University.
