About the role

We're Hiring!

James Cook University (JCU) is creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally.

Passionate about communications, content and creating positive student experiences? Join JCU in this fixed-term role to February 2028, as a Communications and Engagement Officer, supporting digital communications, student engagement activities and events that help our student community feel informed, connected and supported.

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build practical experience across communications, content creation and event delivery within a supportive team.

  • Full-time, Fixed Term to February 2028 | 36.25hrs per week
  • Based on-site at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
  • HEWL 5: $78,740.56 - $89,310.33 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you’ll help create a positive and engaging experience for JCU students through communications, digital content and events. You’ll create and share content across a variety of channels, supporting students to stay informed, connected and engaged throughout their time at university.

Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll support the planning and delivery of student events and engagement activities, helping ensure they run smoothly and provide a positive experience for students. You’ll have opportunities to develop your skills, contribute ideas and build experience across different areas of communications and engagement.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone at the beginning of, or looking to build, their career in communications, marketing or events. You’ll have qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Events or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant skills, experience and training.

You may have developed your experience through employment, study, placements, internships, volunteering or community involvement. You’ll be able to create clear and engaging content, communicate confidently with different people and use Microsoft Office and digital communication tools. You do not need to have worked in every system listed, but you should be comfortable learning new technology.

You’ll be organised, attentive to detail and comfortable managing different priorities with support from your team. Experience assisting with events, photography, videography or content creation will be well regarded but is not essential.

If you’re a proactive and creative communicator who enjoys working with others and is keen to develop your skills while contributing to the student experience, we’d love to hear from you.
