Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

The AbLE Academy is a small team that provides academic staff development across the University and offers a home for institutional innovation. It supports and guides programme teams to enhance curriculum design and teaching quality as we continually seek to improve the quality of the student experience.

The University now seeks to appoint a College Mentoring Co-ordinator who will be responsible for delivering the mentoring programme across two partner institutions: Abertay University and Dundee & Angus College.

If you want to join us in the AbLE Academy and work on this sector leading initiative, then this job could be for you. You will need to be an Abertay student who has also previously studied at Dundee and Angus College. You will be willing to work at both the University and College and engage with staff and students across both institutions. Your role will provide you with the profile and opportunities to help your own professional development so that you can potentially move on to an education-based career when you complete your studies. We help the university, through its students and staff, develop and evolve and we hope you will want to bring an enthusiasm and understanding to this role with the AbLE Academy team.

Key Responsibilities:

The Co-ordinator will ensure that mentors and mentees receive the support they need and will develop strategies to enhance communication and foster a collaborative, inclusive environment across the organisations.

  • Programme Coordination : Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and training of mentors and mentees from both Abertay University and Dundee & Angus College, ensuring that all participants understand the programme's goals and expectations.

  • Community Building: Develop and implement strategies to foster a sense of community among mentors and mentees across both institutions, including organising joint social events, workshops, and group activities that involve participants from both campuses.

  • Mentor-Mentee Pairing: Assist with pairing mentors and mentees across the two institutions, taking into account shared interests, goals, and preferences to ensure successful and meaningful mentor-mentee relationships.

  • Programme Monitoring & Support: Monitor and record the progress of mentoring relationships providing ongoing guidance and support to mentors and mentees to ensure they are receiving adequate resources.

  • Promotion & Outreach: Work with both Abertay University and Dundee & Angus College to promote the mentoring programme across campus and the local community. This includes managing communication through social media, email newsletters, and in-person outreach sessions at both campuses.

  • Event Planning: work with the partners Students' Associations and Student Services teams to organise and facilitate events and workshops that bring together mentors and mentees from both Abertay University and Dundee & Angus College, including social meetups, group discussions, and skill-building sessions.

  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of participant involvement and progress, provide regular reports to supervising faculty/staff members at both institutions, and assist with other administrative tasks as needed.
