Clinical Tutor in Psychiatry, Mayo Medical Academy, Part-Time (0.5FTE), Specific Purpose Contract

The School of Medicine at the University of Galway are looking for suitably qualified and experienced Clinical Tutor in Psychiatry for Mayo Medical Academy based in Castlebar. This post is part-time (0.5FTE) specific purpose to cover a period of leave.

The post holder will undertake undergraduate clinical teaching, examination and participate in research activities affiliated with University of Galway, and research in psychiatry at Mayo Medical Academy.

The post holder will be a registered medical practitioner. A higher specialist and a teaching qualification are desirable. The post holder will have completed basic specialist training in psychiatry or general practice, and have passed or be close to passing the MRCPsych or equivalent. He/she will have broad clinical and teaching experience, together with excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate will work half-time as a lecturer.

The post holder will play an important role in the undergraduate medical teaching programme of University of Galway at the Mayo campus. They will work closely with similar postholders in the disciplines of Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and General Practice as well as with clinical academic colleagues at University of Galway to provide co-ordinated development and delivery of specialist clinical education in the newly revised undergraduate medical programme.

They will ideally have some research and clinical teaching experience. Support will be available, as appropriate, to aid in the development of specialist educational skills. A commitment to quality in teaching will be sought and an outline understanding of medical education theory and practice is essential. S/he will need to be able to work with colleagues from diverse disciplines.

Salary: the appointment will be made on the Clinical Tutor 1 salary scale: €63,078 – €74,280 per annum or Clinical Tutor 2: €75,257 - €92,107.
