Clinical Tutor / Registrar in Neurology, Full-Time, Fixed Term Contract

The School of Medicine at the University of Galway are looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates for hospital-based Clinical Tutor and Registrar post in Neurology on a fixed term, fulltime basis for 12 months commencing in July 2024. This post is 0.25FTE University of Galway/0.75FTE Galway University Hospital. The educational primary purpose of the post is to support medical students to learn in the undergraduate medical programme in Neurology and professional development. In addition, the post-holder will contribute to assessment, student support, programme evaluation and continuous programme renewal. You will join progressive and professional teams based in the University of Galway, School of Medicine and Galway University Hospital. The School of Medicine has an enrolment of c.1000 students, including many from overseas. University College Hospital, Galway is conveniently located beside the University campus and is the major teaching hospital. Four regional Medical Academies also support the educational requirements of the University students.

Contract will be one year in duration and will be full-time. The successful post holder will serve the educational needs of the entire undergraduate medical programme and will be expected to contribute to the planning and delivery of teaching, student support and assessment duties, in the early patient contact and clinical skills elements of Phase 1 (Foundation Year and Year 1MB3) and Phase 2 (Years 2MB3 and 3MB3), as well as to the coordination and delivery of clinical teaching in the final phase of the programme (Years 4MB3 and 5MB3). In addition to the academic and teaching component described; candidates applying for a Combined University of Galway/HSE position (as listed) should have relevant clinical experience in that area, ideally previous experience (2-3 years post full registration or 1 year at Registrar grade) in Neurology, but candidates without specific neurology clinical experience will be considered.

Salary: The appointment will be made on the Clinical Tutor 1 salary scale: €65,554 – €77,197 pro rata per annum or Clinical Tutor 2: €78,213 - €95,724 pro rata per annum.
