Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit (ORTU), Churchill Hospital site

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and hard-working nurse or experienced practitioner to join our existing team to undertake clinical research in respiratory diseases. The portfolio includes observational studies, clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPs) and medical device trials. Research areas include lung cancer, pleural diseases, COPD, asthma, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, and respiratory sleep and breathing disorders. Through our collaboration with the Oxford Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit, we are also supporting the national PANORAMIC trial investigating novel antivirals in COVID-19. Co- ordination and the provision of care for participants on the trials, the collection and preparation of biological samples and collection of trial data are key elements of the role.

About You

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the respiratory trials/studies allocated to them. They will be expected take part in all aspects of respiratory care & trial assessments, including spirometry, phlebotomy, ECGs, observations and history taking. They will also need to:

• Have excellent record keeping skills and maintain files and notes accurately.

• Educate patients re: medication use and completing diaries and train relevant health care workers regarding trial protocols.

• Liaise with the multidisciplinary team and trial monitors.

• Attend relevant training which sometimes requires travel.

You will be NMC Registered Adult Nurse, with HCPC/ RCCP registration or have considerable experience as a practitioner. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It is desirable to have venepuncture skills and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
