Job Title: Clinical Research Contract Officer

Tenure: Permanent. Full time or part-time applications, as well as flexible working arrangements, will be considered

Summary of Post

In order to deliver on the research strategy, the Office of Research and Innovation provides integrated support for research funding applications to public and private funders, negotiation and management of funding agreements and commercialisation of RCSI research outputs. To support the Office a position of Clinical Research Contracts Officer has been established to provide support in the assessment of the legal and regulatory requirements of clinical research as well as drafting, negotiating and managing clinical research agreements up to execution. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and closely with clinicians and clinical research support staff in order to understand the clinical research context of each study and translate it into the necessary agreement.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

§ Review and determine the contractual requirements for clinical studies.

§ Draft and negotiate clinical research related agreements (collaborative clinical research agreements, clinical trial agreements, material and/or data sharing or processing agreements).

§ Review, interpret, and negotiate agreements received from external parties.

§ Develop and update template documents, as required.

§ Oversee and manage agreements related correspondence and communications with RCSI academics, hospitals and other universities.

§ Track, monitor and file contracts.

§ Develop strong working relations with internal colleagues within RCSI ORI and key external stakeholders.

§ Advise internal colleagues on contract and data protection matters.

§ Provide reporting metrics, as required.

§ Draft and update SOPs.

§ Other activities as may be requested by the Associate Director of Research.

Qualifications – (Essential):

§ Legal or postgraduate health research qualification.

Knowledge, experience and skills – (Essential):

§ Relevant experience in research contracts or management in a clinical or academic or industrial setting.

§ Strong organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail, excellent task management skills together with the ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously; the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines; capable of working on own initiative and under time constraints; ability to think strategically and develop solutions to multi-faceted problems.

§ Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.

§ Be enthusiastic and flexible.

§ Possess strong customer service skills.

Knowledge, Experience and qualifications– (Desirable):

§ Qualification and/or experience of dealing with data protection matters

§ Good knowledge of GDPR and health research requirements in Ireland.

§ Experience of working in an academic or clinical setting.

§ Experience in managing clinical research projects

§ Experience in the management of research programmes.
