About The Role: (Given the nature of the role, candidates with no academic experience are encouraged to apply, highlighting capacity to undertake essential and/or desirable requirements of the role.) Curtin Law School is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its Clinical Professional Practice team. The position involves working at the John Curtin Law Clinic, a teaching clinic at Curtin Law School. Responsibilities include taking carriage of legal files for the benefit of clients alongside working with students as they earn clinical practice credits and valuable real-world experience within their undergraduate (LLB) and postgraduate (PLT) law studies. The role may also involve facilitating clinical practice in the policy and law reform domain. A Clinical Lecturer / Senior Lecturer will demonstrate an understanding of the student learning experience through high-quality, effective teaching practice and curriculum design, including the incorporation of research, scholarship, and/or professional practice into teaching activities. This role promotes and supports student learning through mentoring and leadership. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement and innovation in the legal clinic sphere.

  • Essential Requirements of the Role:

  • Significant legal practice experience, with a present Western Australian Legal Practising Certificate, or the ability to obtain the same prior to or at the commencement of appointment.
  • Proven ability to develop high level teaching skills with a reflective approach to teaching and learning and a strong understanding of pedagogical theory or demonstrable capacity of the same.
  • Strong legal professional engagement and accompanying networks, with demonstrable leadership within the legal profession.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the legal clinic.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in curriculum development and unit/course coordination in legal clinics or demonstrable capacity of the same.
  • An emerging record or demonstrable capacity to build a research agenda within a legal clinic and/or win external grants to support legal clinical activities.
