James Cook University is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic occupational therapist to join our team as a Clinical Educator/Lecturer, Occupational Therapy.   This is an exciting opportunity to combine your clinical expertise with your passion for education. You will supervise and support occupational therapy students as they gain valuable practical experience while delivering meaningful services to children, young people, families and the wider community.

About the role

Based within JCU’s student-led occupational therapy service, you will provide clinical education, supervision and support for undergraduate occupational therapy students undertaking observational and block placements.   The service primarily supports children and young people aged 18 months to 18 years who may otherwise experience difficulty accessing occupational therapy in the local community. Depending on individual needs, services may include assessment, therapy, home or school programs, group sessions and collaboration with families, schools, health professionals and other service providers.   You will also contribute to interdisciplinary programs for adults and children and help shape the continued development of JCU’s occupational therapy service.

Key responsibilities

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:
  • Educate, supervise, support and evaluate undergraduate occupational therapy students undertaking clinical placements
  • Guide students in the assessment and delivery of therapy for children with developmental delays, learning difficulties, motor challenges and sensory processing needs
  • Support a family-centred approach through consultation and collaboration with families, teachers, health professionals and other key stakeholders
  • Facilitate student involvement in interdisciplinary therapy programs and group activities
  • Ensure the completion of timely, accurate and professional clinical documentation, including file notes, reports, home programs and correspondence
  • Coordinate client appointments, follow-up activities and other administrative requirements
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the occupational therapy service, with a focus on strengthening interdisciplinary practice
  • Participate in relevant University activities and meetings

About you

You are a collaborative and engaging occupational therapist who enjoys helping students translate academic learning into confident, professional practice. You will bring:
  • A degree qualification, or higher, in Occupational Therapy from a World Federation of Occupational Therapists accredited university
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Demonstrated clinical experience working with paediatric clients
  • Experience educating and supervising undergraduate occupational therapy students
  • The ability to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary learning
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed organisational and time-management capabilities
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Experience in health-related research or consultancy, or occupational therapy practice and education in rural, regional or remote settings, will be highly regarded.
