    Interview Date: 25 April 2024

We are recruiting nurses and midwives from all fields and welcome applications from current registrants to conduct our Nursing and Midwifery Council OSCEs for international candidates, as part of a project funded by NHS Improvement and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to secure a full or part time contract at the CTC. Shifts are between Monday – Friday 8.00 – 4.30pm. A substantive contract will not impact on your ability to provide sessional/casual hours during non-contracted days and weekends.

The post includes assessing the safe application of clinical skills by candidates seeking registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

You will be expected to prepare your test area for OSCE skills, undertake objective marking and moderation of assessments, using IT media and supportive technology.

  • Communicate and discuss results with lead assessors and colleagues.
  • Offer support for candidates undertaking the OSCEs.
  • Be willing to support the test centre in activities relevant to your role as an assessor.
  • About you

  • This post is suitable for experienced nurse and midwife assessors (including supervisors & mentors) with the knowledge, skills and experience in OSCES (or other form of simulated/practical assessment) for international candidates, who wish to contribute to the development of safe patient care, by ensuring that the nurses entering the NMC register are fit for purpose and fit for practice.
  • We value experience and competent practitioners with skills in clinical teaching, learning and assessment of clinical practice.
  • We also recognise that graduate nurses and midwives who have recently qualified have much to offer the test centre, based on their recent study and practice experiences.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills will be required to deliver effective OSCE assessment of candidates within the test centre.
  • Evidence of Continuous professional development of your nursing skills in keeping with your NMC revalidation requirements.
  • If you have these skills and would like to be involved in developing the future nursing and midwifery workforce do contact us.

  • Registrant with a Nursing, Midwifery or dual registration qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Proven clinical experience/expertise

  • Hold a further or higher education qualification such as a first degree, NVQ Assessor or an NMC mentorship, teaching or assessing qualification

  • Desirable:

  • Hold a further or higher education diploma or degree in a relevant subject
  • Faculty/Department

The Competence test centre is part of the faculty of Health Education and Society.

    We offers tests of competence which measures candidates against the current;

    - NMC Standards for nurses

    https: // www.

    - NMC standards for midwives

    https: // www.

    - NMC standards for nursing associates

    https: // www.

The distinct fields of practice tested include: Adult, Child, Learning disabilities, Mental health, Midwifery and Nursing Associates.

We require assessors from all fields of practice but have specific need to increase the number of: Learning Disability, Child and Mental health nursing assessors.

Our test centre (CTC) has expanded its facilities and will have the capacity to test over 45 candidates per day.

To do this we need reliable professionals to assess our candidates. At the CTC we work in partnership with the Trusts to build the future workforce for safe patient care. The recent COVID outbreak demonstrates the diversity of the NHS staff and the importance of selecting the right people for nursing and midwifery.

    About Us

Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.

We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That's why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012.

We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that students actually learn rather than the way they are expected to learn. Waterside Campus opened in September 2018.

Our commitment to transforming lives and inspiring change is at the heart of all that we do.

    Right to Work

All candidates will be asked to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK at interview.

We welcome applications from underrepresented groups.

The University of Northampton is committed to providing a vibrant, ethical and sustainable work, study and living environment that values equality, diversity and inclusion.

This commitment, along with our legal and moral obligations, provides an inclusive environment for staff, students and the public who may be affected by our activities.

Together @ UON confirms our commitment to equality and inclusion, underpinned by our belief in taking action. We are dedicated to creating an environment that celebrates equality and harnesses the power of diversity.

Together @ UON demonstrates our pledge to our staff, students and partners to nurture and develop an environment where equality and inclusion can thrive whilst we Transform Lives and Inspire Change.
