Cleaning Supervisor Apply The Post

Reporting to the Cleaning Services Manager, the role holder will be part of the front line, operational team and will be required to regularly interact and communicate with a diverse range of customers providing excellence in customer service.

The role holder is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment and organising a team of cleaners to deliver a high standard of cleaning services for all customers.

The role holder will be required to monitor the performance of cleaning staff; ensuring required standards are achieved and maintained to a high level. The role holder will be expected to work across all buildings and all aspects of the business. The role holder must have experience of supervising, leading, motivating and developing large groups of staff, from diverse backgrounds. A proactive approach is essential as are excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. A uniform will be provided and role holders are expected to have a high standard of personal appearance.

Hours of work are Monday to Sunday on a 5 over 7 shift pattern to meet the demands of the business. Typical working day is 8am to 4pm.

Cleaning Supervisors are required to supervise and participate in activities relating to student arrival and departure weekends as well as Open and Applicant Days and Graduation. Dates will be advised in advance.

Description of Duties
  • To liaise daily with departmental Managers to understand requirements, concerns, faults, complaints and feedback issues
  • To allocate staff and resources as required to fulfil cleaning requirements in line with agreed cleaning schedules
  • To undertake inspections to check the performance of cleaning staff and to ensure that work is completed to the correct standard
  • To be aware of industry standard cleaning practices and to ensure best practice is implemented
  • To identify, participate and deliver training and development needs of all cleaning staff to ensure high operational and safety standards are maintained
  • To manage cleaning staff performance in line with University guidelines, taking appropriate action when required
  • To maintain electronic records for activities within the teams, e.g., annual leave, training and other legislative requirements
  • To regularly review and maintain stocks of cleaning materials, consumables and other relevant items within the cluster and ordering of such items. Reporting concerns where appropriate
  • Monitor provision of summer stock items, reporting misuse, damage or other concerns to the Cleaning Services Manager
  • To undertake and regularly review risk assessments in relation to cleaning tasks and activities
  • To report incidents in accordance with specified procedures
  • To ensure a high level of customer service excellence is provided by all cleaners
  • To ensure all cleaning staff work safely at all times
  • To be proactive in providing a friendly, polite, efficient and professional customer service when welcoming and responding to enquiries from customers
  • Any other duties as defined by accommodation services management
  • Essential Criteria
  • Educated to Standard Grade Level or able to demonstrate a comparable level of ability, e.g. through relevant experience
  • Extensive experience of working in a supervisory role
  • Computer literate, (core Microsoft office packages)
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in a cleaning environment
  • Physically fit to fulfil the requirements of the job
  • Full driving licence
  • Ability to motivate staff
  • Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of using an Accommodation Management System or other relevant booking systems (e.g. Roomservice/KX)
  • Willingness to attend and participate in relevant training to ensure that high operational and safety standards are maintained at all times
  • Responsiveness to satisfying the proper demands of customers and colleagues; to exercise good inter-personal skills; to use good judgement
  • Experience of working in a residential environment, e.g. hotel or student accommodation
  • Familiarity with an accommodation booking system
