    The University of Northampton is looking to appoint a night time cleaning operative to work within the team to achieve and maintain exemplary standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout all spaces within buildings, providing scheduled and ad hoc cleaning support to shared staff facilities and general circulation areas across the estate, with responsibility for replenishing consumables to ensure continuity of services – a proactive role to meet the needs of all building users.

    Principle Duties include;

  • To service all areas designated by the Facilities Supervisor, completing scheduled and ad hoc tasks to maintain a level of cleanliness throughout the evening / overnight shift. This will also include removing waste and replenishing consumable items.
  • General management and removal of litter, waste and spillages in general circulation areas.
  • To work with other team members, to ensure that work is covered during absence of colleagues.
  • Working to 1st Degree Facilities Standard operating procedures.
  • This post is subject to a discretionary shift allowance which is implemented in recognition of employees working unsociable hours and is applicable to those who work between the hours of 11pm and 6am. As this post is contracted for shifts that cover the whole of this period, it is subject to the maximum shift allowance of 10% for hours worked.

    We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage. In recognition of this, the starting salary for this post has been increased to pay the higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 2 salary.

    About you

    You must have the following;

  • Experience in cleaning tasks.
  • Be able to work accurately and safely.
  • Experience in completion of work in accordance with approved codes of practice and legislative compliance.
  • Experience of working in occupied buildings understanding the need not to cause disruption.
  • Have sound knowledge of products and materials currently in use.
  • Have good interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision and on own initiative, either in a team or alone.
  • Be able to work under pressure and manage conflicting demands.
  • To be adaptable, conscientious and to be good team member.
  • Qualifications

    Desirable;

  • BICS Operators Proficiency Certificate Stage 1 or willing to work towards qualification.

    You will become part of the Estates and Campus Services team, working for University of Northampton Enterprises Limited.
