CITAL Instructional Designer

Position Description:

The Valparaiso University Center for Innovation in Teaching, Assessment, and Learning (CITAL) is seeking an Instructional Designer. Reporting to the Executive Director of CITAL, you would work with fellow CITAL teammates and other University members to create the best teaching and learning environments for faculty and students. Being a Valpo Instructional Designer, you would provide campus-wide support for faculty and departments offering face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and programs. We are seeking someone to manage course design and development processes, evaluate course design, and apply best practices in teaching and learning in course designs. 

Major Responsibilities:

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● Partnering with faculty across the university to design, develop, and support new and existing courses and programs in one-on-one and programmatic settings.
● Provide workshops on instructional technology and pedagogical topics relevant to teaching and learning.
● Manage multiple projects involving different stakeholders to ensure timely development and delivery of courses and programs.
● Assist faculty to integrate course design elements that promote best practices for online and hybrid course design, accessibility, mission-related teaching practices, and alignment with course/program outcomes.
● Collaborate with faculty and departments to successfully transition desired face-to-face courses and programs to the hybrid or online environment.
● Work with faculty and departments to evaluate and revise existing courses to enhance the learning experience for students based on best practices.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

● Master’s degree or equivalent experience in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or a related field

● Three or more years’ experience designing online or hybrid courses in an educational environment
● Strong knowledge of learning theories, effective teaching and learning practices, and instructional design models
● Strong organizational skills, project and time-management skills, and attention to detail
● Visual and multimedia design skills, including the ability to storyboard
● Ability to build relationships, synthesize input from multiple stakeholders, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff across the University
● Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
● Experience working collaboratively on team-based projects
● Experience with teaching technologies, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online creation and delivery platforms
● Strong aptitude for learning new technologies

Other Qualifications:

● Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System
● Experience with Zoom or other online video conferencing platforms
● Experience with Google Workspace (formerly Google Apps for Education)
