Position Title Chief of Pediatrics

Position Description The State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry and its patient-care facility, the University Eye Center (UEC), invite applications for the position of Chief of the Pediatrics Section within the Primary Care Service.

SUNY College of Optometry has a nationally recognized pediatric faculty and a strong research program with emphasis on pediatrics and myopia management. The University Eye Center, located in Midtown Manhattan, serves a diverse patient population from across New York City and beyond, with approximately 60,000 patient encounters annually. In response to the growing demand for pediatric eye care, the Barbara Salzman Center for Pediatric Eye Care was recently established to support continued expansion in clinical services, education, and outreach.

This is a full-time faculty position, with rank commensurate with experience, providing senior clinical, academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for the Pediatric Service. The Chief delivers direct patient care to infants, children, and patients with special needs and serves as a key member of the clinical administration team.

The Chief plays a central role in didactic and clinical education, mentoring faculty, supervising clinical instruction, and integrating evidence-based and interprofessional practices into pediatric care. Close collaboration with faculty, students, and staff is essential to advancing student learning and optimizing patient outcomes.

Working in partnership with clinical managers and the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief oversees operational planning, workflow optimization, budget development, and revenue growth for the Pediatric Service. The position includes strategic development and management of the Barbara Salzman Center for Pediatric Eye Care, expansion of access to care, and service on the Clinic Council, with responsibility for maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the College's clinical, educational, and research missions and possess excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills within an academic health care environment.
