  • About This Opportunity

    The Centre Manager is a vital role expected to lead the business and operational administration of the UQ Cyber Research Centre. The primary function is to lead stakeholder engagement, drive the implementation of research projects and ensure the operational effectiveness of the centre. The position is responsible for identifying growth opportunities and developing them into large strategic partnerships.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Operations Management

  • Support the Centre Director in providing day-to-day operational management of the Centre, including facilities and space management, risk mitigation, overseeing student placements, and ensuring timely achievement of Centre deliverables.

  • Establish and maintain data management strategies and processes and ensure that relevant storage and retrieval of data and documentation is implemented.

  • Advise the Director on a regular basis regarding the Centre's financial position and any planning issues.

  • Understand and handle detailed contracts and budgetary allocations and commitments;

  • Liaise with the Faculty Management Accountant and maintain the budget and financial accounts, and assist Chief Investigators (CIs) to ensure financial obligations are met in a timely and accountable manner.

  • Engagement and Research Partnerships Management

  • Operate as a key liaison between the Centre's internal stakeholders, research partners and industry stakeholders both in Australia and overseas to facilitate strong and long-term sustainable relationships.

  • Assist the Director to develop and leverage strong working relationships and networks within UQ, UQ Cyber and with industry partners and external stakeholders to benefit the Centre.

  • Strategic oversight of events, official functions, public profiling activities and regular proactive communication for the benefit of the Centre's stakeholders and reputation as a world leading research Centre

  • Provide advice to the Director and Executive Committee on the strategic management of the Centre, including the identification, development, and implementation of initiatives to promote its continuing development and growth as one of the leading cyber research centres in the Asia Pacific.

  • Governance and Reporting

  • Manage and review compliance across all centre activities to ensure adherence to external and internal process and procedure, work practices and guidelines, taking corrective action where necessary.

  • Oversee the management of the data management plan and ethics applications.

  • Assist in the collation of information for the commercialisation and intellectual property requirements for the project.

  • Manage centre finances, project contracts and associated intellectual property in consultation with the centre director and affiliates as appropriate. Ensuring these are recorded and reported in accordance with the centre's contractual obligations.

  • About You
  • Postgraduate degree in business management, law or cyber security, and extensive experience in a university research environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Project Management experience in a research environment with demonstrated leadership and management capability within complex operations including budget planning, risk management and compliance.

  • Demonstrated strategic and operational planning skills including budget development and the ability to interpret financial data at strategic and operational levels and produce reports for external partners and funding agencies.

  • High-level organisational skills including the ability to operate independently within established frameworks and guidelines while prioritising competing work demands and meeting deadlines, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and manage multiple project objectives concurrently.

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and emotional intelligence to minimise disruption to the momentum of the project objectives and to build relationships and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and managing budgets of up to $10 million and the ability to work well under pressure and constant concurrent deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience in successful business development of large grant proposals (e.g., CRCs) and industry partnerships with cash commitments of at least $200,000 per annum.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and winning government tenders and/or grants.

  • Desirable

  • Experience working in a University environment including using relevant administrative tools and possessing a knowledge of university policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience in, and awareness of relevant culture settings for international development projects or diplomatic missions.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check etc.
