About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU's research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK's Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK's leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
At our ARU Writtle campus, we specialise in animal, environmental, agricultural and horticultural courses, for learners aged 16 to 18, adult learners, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
About the role:
The Catering Service in Writtle currently operates a main restaurant, coffee shop and provides hospitality for meetings and events. Your can-do attitude will enable you to assist the Catering Operations Manager with food and beverage services. Your typical day would be spent preparing basic food items in the kitchen, and serving front of house, to include operating tills. You will take pride in maintaining a clean and attractive environment for customers. You may also on occasion assist with catering for meetings and events, preparing simple food items and delivering food and beverages to meeting rooms.
Although a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, basic food preparation and till experience are desirable, a willingness to learn is more important. We're happy to offer full training, as well as opportunities for further development, including qualifications. Good communication skills and a strong customer focus are essential.
This role will work Monday-Friday, typically covering the following hours:
Monday 4:30pm-7:30pm
Tuesday 4:30pm-7:30pm
Wednesday 9am-2:30pm or 5pm-7:30pm (split shift)
Thursday 9am-2:30pm or 5pm-7:30pm (split shift)
Friday 4:30pm-7:30pm
These hours will be worked over 35-weeks of the year. The 35-weeks typically follows the Higher Education Timetable, which means Easter and Christmas would be non-working weeks, as well as a long summer break. School half terms would be working weeks. With advance notice there may be occasional paid overtime available.
If you're interested in working in catering and pride yourself on providing excellent customer service, we'd love to hear from you.
It is expected that interviews will take place on 25 October 2024.
Informal enquiries can be made to Tracey Tanner, Catering Operations Manager, at [email protected].
