Join Curtin University's UniReady sessional teaching pool and help transform lives through education. As a Sessional Teaching Academic, you will support students from diverse backgrounds, including equity cohorts and those who may be underrepresented in higher education, to develop the skills, confidence, and academic capability needed for university success. Through engaging teaching, constructive feedback, and a commitment to inclusive practice, you will make a meaningful difference in students' educational journeys while working collaboratively within a supportive and student-focused teaching team.
 
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and learning experiences that support student success in enabling education in any of the following units (Academic Writing, Communications, Numeracy Essentials, Math for Science, Humanities, Commerce, Health Sciences, Science and Technology)
  • Foster inclusive and supportive learning environments that recognise the diverse needs of students and assist their transition to university study.
  • Assess student learning, provide constructive feedback, and support students in achieving intended learning outcomes.
  • Develop and contribute to learning resources, curriculum delivery, and collaborative teaching practices within the UniReady team.
  • Maintain excellence in teaching through innovation, scholarship, professional development, and ongoing engagement with contemporary enabling education practices.
Who We Are Looking For/Selection Criteria:
  1. Relevant Qualifications and Disciplinary Expertise:
    A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, with demonstrated knowledge and experience appropriate to teaching in an enabling, higher education, adult learning, or senior secondary education context.
  2. Student-Centred Teaching and Learning:
    Demonstrated experience designing, facilitating, or delivering engaging learning experiences that support diverse learners, including students from equity cohorts and educationally underrepresented backgrounds, promote participation, and contribute to positive student outcomes in enabling education.
  3. Commitment to Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Practice:
    Demonstrated ability to create a supportive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that values diversity and fosters student confidence, belonging, and success.
  4. Supporting Academic Development and Student Success:
    Experience supporting enabling student learners to develop academic skills, self-regulation, confidence, persistence, and independent learning strategies, particularly students transitioning into tertiary education, including the provision of constructive feedback that promotes growth and achievement.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated digital literacy and the ability to effectively use learning technologies, work collaboratively within a teaching team, contribute positively to a student-focused culture, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning and improvement.
Remuneration:
Remuneration will be in accordance with the Curtin University Casual Academic pay rates, with applicable rates currently ranging from approximately $58.12 per hour (marking) to $174.36 per tutorial delivered, depending on duties performed.
  
Role Requirements: 
  1. You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role 
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction  
  3. This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check
