SUMMARY

The Career Achievement and Work-Based Learning Coordinator provides day-to-day coordination and direction to students, alumni, faculty, and employer support for the Jets Career Achievement Center. Working under the Director of Career and Professional Achievement, the Coordinator implements approved strategy, curriculum, procedures, service standards, and performance measures across career preparation, the required one-credit Career Essentials course, employer engagement, internships, externships, job shadows, apprenticeships, employment, and post-completion follow-up.

The Coordinator helps ensure that every degree- and certificate-seeking student can complete the practical work of preparing for a career. The position supports delivery of the Career Essentials course and may teach or facilitate assigned sections, workshops, or laboratories when qualified and authorized. The Coordinator helps students develop a career and education plan; résumé, cover letter, professional social-media profile, digital portfolio, and professional identity; interview, networking, and job-search skills; a work-based-learning plan; and a clear next step into employment, transfer, or continued education.

The Coordinator manages the operational details of work-based learning and apprenticeship participation, including student intake and readiness, employer and site coordination, learning agreements, orientations, progress tracking, evaluations, issue resolution, and completion documentation. The position maintains assigned employer relationships, coordinates events and recruitment activity, administers career technology and records, collects first-destination and other outcomes information, and supports federal, state, accreditation, apprenticeship, grant, and College reporting requirements. Services must be responsive to transfer, workforce, adult, dual-enrolled, online, apprenticeship, Corrections Education Program, alumni, and other students served by Jackson College.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Essentials Course Delivery and Student Engagement

• Implement the approved Career Essentials curriculum, annual delivery plan, service standards, and assessment processes under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with faculty and academic leadership.

• Support course scheduling, enrollment outreach, section preparation, instructor and employer-guest coordination, room and technology needs, student communications, and other operating details required for consistent delivery.

• Teach or facilitate assigned course sections, workshops, laboratories, and individual or group coaching sessions when qualified and authorized under College policy.

• Maintain current learning-management-system content, assignments, rubrics, templates, examples, videos, employer materials, and accessible digital resources for the course.

• Help students complete required career artifacts, including a documented career and education plan, résumé, professional profile or digital portfolio, mock interview, networking plan, work-based-learning plan, and next-step employment or transfer action plan.

• Track enrollment, attendance or engagement, assignment completion, required artifacts, and successful course completion; communicate missing requirements and coordinate timely outreach with instructors, faculty, navigators, and student achievement personnel.

• Provide transfer-intending students with practical support connecting intended major, transfer institution, experiential learning, further education, and long-term career direction.

• Provide course and career support across College locations and modalities and adapt delivery for students with varied goals, ages, schedules, educational backgrounds, and life circumstances.

• Collect pre- and post-assessment results, student feedback, work products, participation information, and implementation observations; provide the Director with recommendations for improvement.

Career Coaching and Professional Development

• Provide individual and group career coaching for students and alumni in career exploration, career decision-making, educational planning, job search, employment transition, and career advancement.

• Administer and interpret approved career and interest assessments, including platforms such as PathwayU, and connect results to programs of study, transfer options, credentials, occupations, and career pathways.

• Use current labor-market, wage, benefit, demand, education, credential, and transfer information to help students make informed choices and understand the likely value and requirements of different pathways.

• Coach students in résumé and cover-letter development, professional portfolios and work samples, applications, job-search strategy, interviewing, professional communication, and follow-up.

• Help students establish and responsibly manage a professional social-media presence, digital identity, online reputation, networking profile, and portfolio while protecting personal information and maintaining authenticity.

• Prepare students for contemporary hiring practices, including applicant-tracking systems, online applications, virtual and recorded interviews, skills-based hiring, pre-employment assessments, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

• Prepare students not only to obtain employment but also to onboard successfully, demonstrate reliability, communicate with supervisors, work effectively with others, receive feedback, understand compensation and benefits, retain employment, and advance.

• Coordinate approved professional-branding opportunities, mock interviews, networking sessions, mentoring, headshots, employer panels, classroom presentations, and career-development workshops.

• Refer students to navigators and appropriate College or community resources when transportation, clothing, technology, childcare, reentry, financial, or other barriers affect participation in work-based learning or employment.

Work-Based Learning, Internship, and Apprenticeship Coordination

• Coordinate internships, externships, co-ops, job shadows, apprenticeships, service learning, project-based experiences, student employment, and other approved forms of work-based and experiential learning.

• Guide students through intake, readiness review, application, matching, onboarding, registration, and completion processes; clearly communicate academic, workplace, documentation, and conduct expectations.

• Function as the primary operational contact for assigned work-based-learning employers and sites, maintain regular communication, and respond promptly to routine student and supervisor needs.

• Conduct or coordinate work-site suitability reviews using approved College criteria and maintain required site, employer, insurance, agreement, and contact documentation.

• Work with faculty and academic departments to confirm that placements align with program learning outcomes, student goals, employer expectations, and applicable course or credential requirements.

• Prepare and maintain learning agreements, student and supervisor orientations, work plans, hour or milestone records, reflection activities, midterm and final evaluations, and completion documentation.

• Monitor student progress and workplace experience; address routine concerns and promptly escalate significant safety, compliance, performance, discrimination, harassment, accommodation, or relationship issues to the Director and appropriate College offices.

• Promote paid experiences whenever feasible and ensure paid and unpaid opportunities are handled in accordance with College policy and applicable law.

• Identify participation barriers and coordinate practical solutions with students, employers, faculty, navigators, Financial Aid, and community partners.

• Coordinate day-to-day apprentice support, including recruitment and intake assistance, enrollment and registration steps, related technical instruction records, progress and milestone tracking, employer and sponsor communication, completion documentation, and transition to employment or advancement.

• Support approved processes for registered apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship credit, employer sponsorship, audit readiness, and program reporting; refer policy, registration, compliance, and expansion decisions to the Director and responsible College leaders.

Employer Engagement, Recruitment, and Events

• Manage assigned employer accounts and relationships within the Director's employer-engagement plan, providing responsive service and maintaining clear records of contacts, opportunities, placements, hires, and follow-up.

• Identify and develop prospective internship, apprenticeship, work-based-learning, employment, job-shadow, mentoring, and classroom-engagement opportunities for review and cultivation.

• Post and maintain approved employment and experiential-learning opportunities; review listings for completeness, relevance, quality, compensation information, and consistency with College standards.

• Coordinate employer recruitment, job fairs, career fairs, student showcases, career treks, information sessions, mock interviews, networking events, and other career-focused activities.

• Work with faculty and program leadership to bring employers and industry professionals into classrooms through presentations, career conversations, demonstrations, advisory activities, projects, assessments, and recruitment.

• Collect employer and supervisor feedback regarding student readiness, performance, curriculum alignment, hiring results, job quality, and service experience; communicate findings to the Director and appropriate academic personnel.

• Represent the Jets Career Achievement Center at College, employer, industry, workforce, economic-development, community, and professional events as assigned.

Career Technology, Data, Operations, and Compliance

• Administer the daily operation and data quality of approved career platforms and tools, including systems such as Handshake, PathwayU, the learning-management system, employer and customer-relationship records, résumé or portfolio tools, event systems, and first-destination surveys.

• Maintain accurate student, alumni, employer, opportunity, agreement, placement, evaluation, apprenticeship, event, and outcomes records using established naming, coding, retention, and audit procedures.

• Coordinate first-destination outreach and follow-up with completers and alumni; verify employment, continuing education, transfer, service, military, and other outcomes when possible and document sources appropriately.

• Compile routine reports and provide accurate, timely data to the Director and Institutional Research and Effectiveness regarding participation, course completion, career artifacts, coaching, work-based learning, apprenticeships, employer engagement, placement, and post-completion outcomes.

• Support data collection and documentation needed for College performance measures and applicable federal, state, accreditation, Workforce Pell, earnings, WIOA, Perkins, apprenticeship, grant, and program reporting requirements.

• Follow FERPA, College policy, data-governance standards, records-retention requirements, accessibility expectations, employment and work-based-learning requirements, grant conditions, and approved confidentiality practices.

• Maintain and improve standard operating procedures, checklists, forms, communication templates, service timelines, calendars, and audit files for assigned responsibilities.

• Coordinate outreach and promotional content with the Director and Marketing, including web information, email campaigns, digital content, classroom materials, event promotion, and student and employer communications.

• Assist with approved purchasing, invoices, event logistics, supplies, technology, contracts, and budget tracking for assigned activities.

College Collaboration and Service

• Collaborate closely with the Director, faculty, deans, navigators, Student Achievement Support, Corporate and Continuing Education, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Financial Aid, the Registrar, Marketing, Information Technology, Human Resources, Corrections Education Program personnel, and other College units.

• Participate in orientation, recruitment, open houses, classroom visits, College functions, employer events, committees, and cross-functional improvement work as assigned.

• Responsible for understanding, supporting, and actively demonstrating the College's beliefs, values, mission, and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by the same.

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

KEY RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES

Specific annual targets will be established by the Director through the College planning and performance-management processes. The Coordinator will be evaluated in part on reliable execution and progress in the following areas:

• Reliable implementation of assigned Career Essentials sections, activities, and student outreach, with high and improving completion of required career artifacts.

• Timely, effective career coaching and professional-development services, reflected in student participation, satisfaction, and demonstrated readiness.

• Growth in completed internships, externships, apprenticeships, job shadows, student employment, and other work-based learning, including increased access to paid experiences.

• Accurate and timely apprentice and work-based-learning progress tracking, evaluations, milestone completion, and documentation.

• Responsive employer service, quality opportunity development, successful events, repeat participation, placement or hiring activity, and positive employer feedback.

• Accurate career-platform, employer, student, agreement, event, placement, and outcomes data, including strong first-destination follow-up and knowledge-rate support.

• Consistent compliance with service standards, FERPA, College procedures, accessibility expectations, records requirements, agreements, grants, apprenticeship processes, and audit documentation.

• Effective service to transfer and workforce students across programs, locations, modalities, and stages of the student journey.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No regular staff supervision is anticipated. The position may train, schedule, and provide day-to-day direction to student employees, interns, peer career assistants, temporary employees, employer volunteers, or other personnel as assigned.

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in career development, education, business, human resources, counseling, workforce development, student affairs, organizational leadership, or a related field.
