The Campus Wellness Advisor works directly with the Manager, Total Rewards & Recognition to oversee staff health, mental health and wellness initiatives on all TRU campus'. As the primary point of contact for staff health, mental health and wellness initiatives, the Campus Wellness Advisor will work with contracted health, mental health and wellness providers as well as community- based providers to ensure TRU is providing proactive and well-rounded programs that align with department and organizational goals. By partnering with campus stakeholders and various departments, the Campus Wellness Advisor will research, recommend, revise, implement and coordinate new and existing programs on campus that will help augment and enhance TRU staff experiences at work and at home.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work effectively with all Departments on campus to foster positive relationships with staff to promote healthy choices and lifestyles at TRU. This would include organizing, or participating in, localized educational and promotional events/sessions to ensure they are executed with high quality and consistency.
  • In coordination with the Manager, Total Rewards & Recognition, work to identify Departments on campus which may need additional health and wellness support/education in an effort to proactively reduce absenteeism, illness and absence related issues. When appropriate, this would include communicating directly with staff on sick/disability leaves about specific Health and Wellness resources available to aid in return to work planning.
  • Responsible for researching and identifying Health and Wellness trends in the industry and recommending those that fit well into TRU's Health and Wellness philosophy, goals and budget. This may include working with other Human Resources colleagues to survey staff to establish a desire or need to new or changed programming.
  • Coordinate with local and non-local Health and Wellness providers to facilitate on campus education sessions/seminars. This would include working with groups such as the Canadian Mental Health Association, Public Health offices, Heart & Stroke and Cancer Foundations etc. as well as Insurance and EFAP providers.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of specialized marketing materials and communication strategies that can be used to promote programs, training and education services to staff. This would also include specific materials that could be delivered to staff who are away for illness/disability related reasons as well as all web and social medic distribution channels.
  • Act as the liaison/representative for TRU both on/off campus at community-based Health and Wellness events. This may include attending conferences, information sessions, webinars or other special events.
  • Work in partnership with the Wellness, Innovation and Training Committee, TRU Wellness Centre, Athletics & Recreation and other stakeholders on joint staff Health and Wellness promotion and outreach.
  • Plan, organize and execute several events per year both on and off campus including (but not limited to) Lunch & Learns, Wellness Fair(s), town halls, major announcements and department events.
  • Coordinates the involvement of internal service providers including, but not limited to, Marketing and Communications, Media Services, Facilities, campus food services and conference services to deliver requirements for any events, education, training etc.
  • REPORTS TO Manager, Total Rewards & Recognition

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (ie. Education, Recreation/Athletics, Marketing, Social Work etc.).
  • EXPERIENCE

  • Five years' related experience, including:
  • Two (2) years of direct health and/or wellness related education/promotion.
  • Experience working directly with Health and Wellness related programs (ie. Mental Health First Aid, Safe Talk, Not Myself Today etc.).
  • SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously and tactfully with staff, faculty and students as well as community partners and members of the general public.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to be results oriented and to juggle conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated planning, writing and presentation skills suitable for all levels of the university.
  • Electronic publishing, print production (web and off-set), Advanced Microsoft Suite knowledge, survey software and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to update information via the web and other social media tools.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail
  • High level of tact, discretion and ability to handle and maintain confidential information with the ability to respond appropriately and use judgement
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Sitting at a desk for long periods of time
  • Travel required within Canada
  • Ability to stand for long intervals
  • The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.

    Pay Band

    $36.78 - $40.87 ( CUPE Grade 11 (90% - 100%) )

    Salary rate

    This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
