Position Title Campus Police Officer

PIN 442000 Classification Summary This class is the first level in the Campus Police series. Incumbents patrol and inspect the campus and provide safety- and security-related services to all students, staff, faculty and visitors, as necessary. Responsibilities may include patrolling campus; responding to calls for assistance; performing investigation of incidents, collecting and preserving evidence; locking and unlocking facilities; monitoring security cameras; providing crowd control for events; directing traffic; issuing traffic citations; and maintaining records of all activities and issues. Incumbents may be assigned to monitor a specific facility, such as a parking garage or to a dispatch function. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Licensing Requirements Valid POST license.

Essential Job Function

These are the job duties that are required of the position.

Classification Duties 1. Patrol Assigned area to prevent, discover, and deter the commission of crime; enforce college regulations, local ordinances and federal and state statutes. (B2) 2. Respond to emergency calls and dispatchers regarding a variety of services including illness; accidents; disturbances; crime and other acts against persons or property; animal control; and motorist assistance. (B2) 3. Conduct investigations of incidents as necessary; collect and preserve physical evidence; protect crime scenes; interview suspects, witnesses and victims. Prepare court cases and provide legal testimony. (B2) 4. Perform traffic control duties. Directing automobile and pedestrian traffic, parking patrol activities to maintain safety and efficient flow. (B2) 5. Assist federal, state, county, local law enforcement and emergency response agencies when dispatched or observed. (B2) 6. Take and write incident / accident reports. Prepare routine standardized crime reports. Perform data entry in automated reporting and criminal intelligence collection databases. (B2) 7. Provide safety training to faculty, staff, and students. Provide safety assessment and presentations to faculty, staff, and students. (B2) 8. Assist with college and community special events on and off the college property by providing law enforcement related services. (B2) 9. Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Position Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge Principles and practices of patrol and crime prevention; Applicable campus, local, State, and Federal laws and regulations; Investigation principles and practices; Report preparation techniques; Customer service principles; Computer operation and related software applications; Detailed knowledge of Federal and State Statues, County and Local Ordinances, and College Regulations; Detailed knowledge of Use of Force tactics and authorized use of lethal and non-lethal force techniques.
