Summary of Post

Based within the School of Population Health in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) University of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Data Science Centre are looking for a statistician to join their team. The role will involve supporting research conducted in the National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC) in RCSI which provides national surgical research support and the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) at RCSI Bahrain which conducts observational and interventional studies.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in supporting two separate units in RCSI with the design and analysis of clinical trials in surgical research and a range of observational studies and trials conducted in RCSI Bahrain

The NSRSC was established to improve the collaboration and coordination of surgical research in Ireland. The Centre aims to support those involved in surgical research and trials across the island of Ireland, facilitate integration of clinical trials networks across all hospital groups and foster interest in surgical research among the surgical community in Ireland.

The CTU was established at RCSI Bahrain, supported by RCSI Dublin, to address the need to undertake clinical trials, and to overcome the perceived barriers of undertaking clinical trials in the Middle East. The CTU also conduct numerous observational studies.

This role will involve supporting a mixture of clinical trials (ranging from early stage to larger definitive studies) and other types of research (e.g. cohort studies, case-control studies, surveys, systematic reviews). The successful candidate will be required to provide statistical support and assistance in all aspects of the studies from the design to the analysis and dissemination. The successful candidate will receive senior supervision and mentorship support, training, and professional development. We are looking for a person with previous experience of working in clinical trials and experience of using a standard statistical package, such as Stata, R, SAS.

This post is full time and fixed term for 21 months in the first instance.

We are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please do submit an application — we'd love to hear from you.
