Automation & Advanced Manufacturing Instructor

Primary Purpose:

Provide high-quality instruction and workforce training in automation and advanced manufacturing, with primary responsibility for training in battery construction and assembly and the automated manufacturing of parts. The instructor will develop and deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on learning experiences that prepare students and incumbent workers for modern manufacturing environments supporting regional industry partners.

Qualifications:

Education

• Associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing, Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or a closely related field required. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Relevant industry certifications in manufacturing, automation, robotics, PLCs, CNC, additive manufacturing, safety, quality, or Lean/Six Sigma are preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of automated manufacturing systems, industrial controls, robotics, programmable logic controllers, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and production processes.
• Knowledge of battery components, battery construction, battery pack assembly, manufacturing safety, quality control, and inspection practices.
• Ability to operate, demonstrate, maintain, and troubleshoot manufacturing and automation equipment safely.
• Ability to develop competency-based curriculum, laboratory activities, assessments, and instructional materials.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to students and incumbent workers with varied experience levels.
• Ability to use instructional technology, manufacturing software, and general computer applications.
• Strong organizational, planning, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with college personnel, students, grant stakeholders, employers, and community partners.

Experience

• Five years of directly related, current work experience in advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, robotics, battery production, mechatronics, machining, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field.
• Previous teaching, technical training, apprenticeship, or workforce development experience is preferred.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, energy storage, battery manufacturing, or another advanced manufacturing environment is preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Teach assigned automation and advanced manufacturing courses in accordance with approved curriculum, course competencies, College policies, and grant requirements.
• Develop and deliver DEAAG-supported training in battery construction, battery assembly, automated manufacturing of parts, robotics, PLC programming and troubleshooting, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, industrial controls, quality systems, and Industry 4.0 applications.
• Plan and organize syllabi, lesson plans, laboratory exercises, study guides, assessments, and instructional materials for classroom, laboratory, online, customized, and off-site training.
• Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, credentials, and student progress records and submit required reports on schedule.
• Evaluate student performance, provide timely feedback, and support successful completion of competencies and industry credentials.
• Maintain safe, organized, and effective classroom, laboratory, shop, and industrial training environments; enforce PPE and equipment safety requirements.
• Operate, inspect, secure, and coordinate routine care and inventory of automation, robotics, battery, machining, additive manufacturing, and related training equipment.
• Coordinate with Red River Army Depot, defense contractors, regional manufacturers, and other partners to align training with workforce needs.
• Participate in curriculum development, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, advisory committees, recruitment, and program improvement activities.
• Maintain professional competence through industry engagement, professional associations, technical training, and professional development.
• Accept day, evening, weekend, dual credit, customized, and off-site assignments as required.
• Participate in College and departmental meetings, committees, commencements, and other official functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and work the schedule required to support assigned training.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with students, employees, employers, and grant partners.
• Stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform technical demonstrations for extended periods.
• Lift and move instructional materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work safely around machinery, electrical systems, production equipment, noise, and other conditions associated with manufacturing instruction, using required personal protective equipment.
• Travel to off-site training locations as assigned.

Salary:

Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
