Assurance Advisor

The Role
The University of Oxford is seeking a Research Assurance Advisor to join our
Finance Division.
This role involves collaborating with academic, administrative, and finance
staff to ensure excellence in post-award research administration. You will
disseminate best practices, develop system enhancements, and deliver training
to mitigate financial and reputational risks.
Reporting to the Assurance Manager and working closely with the Assurance
Team, you will build key relationships with research funders, departments, and
Research Services.
The successful candidate will have the skills and judgement to interact
constructively with a wide range of stakeholders, including academics,
managers, support staff, and external funders.
This position is ideal for a recently or partially qualified accountant with a
strong understanding of financial controls and the ability to operate in a

Key Responsibilities
To manage and support the administration of selected routine funder audits
of research projects. This will require the effective co-ordination of
audits with the university appointed auditors and a close working
relationship with academic departments responsible for managing the
research projects.
Through supporting funder audits and regular review of funder rules the
advisor is to maintain a good understanding of major sponsor terms and
conditions in their area of responsibility.

research sponsors

The post holder may be called upon to undertake other tasks or projects as
commensurate with the grading and nature of the post; and to support and
provide cover for colleagues as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience.
Recently or part-qualified with a qualification such as ACA, CIMA, ACCA,
CIPFA.
Proven experience in a relevant role, demonstrating a good understanding
of financial controls in a complex environment.
Strong technical skills with the ability to address sensitive issues and
gain the confidence of senior officers.
Initiative to identify high-risk areas and suggest assurance options, with
a strong sense of purpose in understanding complex environments.
Excellent IT skills, particularly in Excel, with the ability to manipulate
data and draw evidence-based conclusions.
Teamwork skills and proactive collaboration across the Finance Division.
Ability to influence senior academic and administrative staff, communicate
difficult messages, and resolve complex matters.
High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly in coordination,
organization, and deadline management.
Desirable:
Experience with financial systems, particularly Oracle Financials R12.
Experience in the higher education sector or a similar environment.
Experience in a large, complex, and devolved organization.
