The WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering (WASM- MECE) at Curtin University is seeking a dedicated and innovative Associate Lecturer, Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer to join our dynamic team. Your new role The role contributes to both teaching (in-person and on-line) and research to develop and educate students who wish to have domestic and global impact in the resources sector. The balance of teaching and research activities can be negotiated through Curtin's Career and Performance Planning process.

The incumbent will carry out on-going activities to maintain and develop scholarly activities relevant to Mining Engineering. The incumbent will also be expected to undertake administrative and leadership roles consistent with the position. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and supervision in various formats to undergraduate and postgraduate students, fostering ongoing reflective improvement.
  • Assess and provide feedback on student work, contributing to curriculum innovation and content design.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of short courses for mining industry professionals, enhancing engagement with local and overseas workers.
  • Research

  • Develop an independent research program in an area of mining engineering aligned with the school's research strengths.
  • Foster collaboration between industry and academia, leveraging research and funding opportunities by building an industry-engaged research program.
  • Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops, and publications in high-quality outlets.
  • Provide effective supervision for research students and aim for national recognition in the field.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to research activities.
  • You will also be expected to collaborate across disciplines with fellow academics within the school, promoting a unified "One WASM-MECE" approach.

    The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be nearing completion) and practical experience in Mining Engineering and one or more of the areas listed below:

  • Mining automation, digitalisation, machine learning and the application of new technologies in mining.
  • Please note this position is based at our Curtin Kalgoorlie campus.

    Periodic travel between Curtin's Kalgoorlie and Perth campuses will be required for teaching, research, and administrative purposes.

    Essential Criteria:

  • Doctoral qualification in Mining Engineering, or a closely related field (near completion is acceptable).
  • Demonstrated high level teaching skill and a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching delivery.
  • An understanding (ALA), or a strong understanding (ALB/C) of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline and an emerging record (ALA), or record (ALB/C) of contribution to scholarship in teaching.
  • An emerging record (ALA), or an established record (ALB/C) of research outputs/creative works in high quality refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.
  • An emerging record (ALA), or a history (ALB/C) of successful competitive grant applications and/or demand-driven industry funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree research students.
  • Demonstrated ability / experience / capacity to undertake unit coordination role.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
