Curtin University's School of Media, Creative Arts, and Social Inquiry (MCASI) invites applications for the position of Associate Lecturer in Korean Studies. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and diverse team committed to innovative teaching, impactful research, and fostering communities of learners both on-campus and online.

About the Role:

As an Associate Lecturer in Korean Studies , you will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of Korean language units and contribute to the growth of the Korean Studies major. Your responsibilities will include teaching and coordinating Korean language courses, contributing to interdisciplinary research in areas such as international relations, history, or cultural studies, and actively supporting the research and engagement initiatives of the Korea Research and Engagement Centre project.

This position is set to commence in early 2025 and is offered on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE, equivalent to 2.5 days per week) for a fixed term of 12 months.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver engaging Korean language and studies courses (both face-to-face and online).
  • Coordinate and support with the development of the Korean Studies major, ensuring alignment with contemporary higher education practices.
  • Contribute to the research environment by supporting operations and events, and by advancing your research portfolio.
  • Supervise Honours students as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to foster a supportive, collegial learning environment.
  • Selection Criteria:

  • A PhD Qualification (or near completion) in Korean Studies or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education, including evidence of innovative teaching practices and the ability to develop online teaching materials.
  • A native or highly advanced Korean language proficiency , essential for teaching and coordinating language units.
  • An emerging research portfolio , with the potential to contribute to quality research teams and projects.
  • A commitment to reflective teaching practices, curriculum renewal, and fostering student engagement and retention.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills , with the ability to collaborate across diverse cultural and academic contexts.
  • An ability to take initiative in building programs and responding to the evolving higher education landscape in Australia.
  • Role Requirements:

  • Current working rights in Australia for the duration of the position. We are not able to provide sponsorship assistance at this time.
  • Ability to attend in office at our Curtin Bentley Campus in Perth, WA. Noting fully remote work will not be available for this role.
