    School

    We seek an Associate Lecturer with expertise in sound recording and music production, including digital and analogue signal processing, and sequencing, sampling and synthesis techniques. The post is offered as a full-time open contract, starting 1 September 2024, and includes teaching and administration. You should have practical experience in music production, audio programming environments and synthesis, teaching experience related to sound recording and music technology, and an understanding of related cultural, theoretical and historical contexts, including issues such as social inequalities and lack of diversity within the music industry and cultural-technological shifts in recording and production.

    Role

    You will deliver teaching (both practice-based and theory-led) at undergraduate and postgraduate level on the BA in Music and Sound Recording and MA in Music Production and Audio Cultures. You will supervise independent undergraduate and postgraduate projects as well as contributing to the day-to- day running of courses and facilities. Your administrative duties will include participation in committees, as well as activities related to student recruitment, pastoral care and public outreach. You will commit to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the School.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • You will have a postgraduate qualification in Music Technology, Audio Engineering or a related subject with appropriate academic teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
  • You will have specialist knowledge of sound recording, music production, studio practice, digital signal processing, audio programming environments, and related cultural, theoretical and historical contexts.
  • You will be able to communicate MaxMSP, DSP, and MIDI programming techniques clearly to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • You will be able to design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules and programmes and demonstrate evidence of successful Higher Education teaching planning and student supervision.
  • You will have knowledge and experience of a range of teaching strategies to enthuse, engage and retain students, including those from underrepresented social groups.
  • You will have highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • You will have a commitment to high quality, and be able to display creativity, initiative and judgement.
  • You will demonstrate a collaborative ethos, be willing to work proactively with colleagues and display a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.
  • You will show commitment to the School/University through the undertaking of administration duties.
