Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to contribute to expanding Birkbeck's teaching and research in the field of Global Tectonics.
Based within the School of Natural Sciences, you will teach in the field of Global Tectonics. You will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and will teach tectonics, and large scale structural geology, within the framework of Birkbeck's B.Sc. Degree in Geology and associated Certificate courses.
In addition to the Person Specification, you will have a PhD in Tectonics, Structural Geology, or Structural/Stratigraphic Evolution of Sedimentary Basins, and you will have demonstrated teaching experience at undergraduate level in these topics. Practical experience and research in these topics is also desirable, as is experience with diverse teaching styles such as blended learning.
Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £66.70 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier' which covers preparation, teaching and administration in connection with the course.
Terms and Conditions
Fixed-term contract; April 2024 – July 2024, working evenings for 36 contact hours of teaching (10 lectures plus revision session(s), each 6-9 pm) as well as examination setting and marking. This is for a single Level 5 module, taught in the Summer, with an examination.
