    The flagship York School of Architecture is one of the University of York's exciting transformational initiatives. The school's expertise is interdisciplinary, building on York's existing research strengths in culture, community, computation, environment and geography, heritage, and social policy to create a school that supports our commitment to public good. We seek to appoint an Associate Lecturer to take leading roles in supporting the development of the academic curriculum and assist with the creation of the initial staffing team. The successful applicant should have teaching experience and a demonstrable record of delivering projects and working in a team. For this role architecture practice experience will be particularly valued.

    Role

    In this role, you will work with the Founding Professor and Head of School and the Course Director to design and develop the initial teaching curriculum and content. We will be acknowledging the accreditation and validation requirements of the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects. We will launch the school in the academic year 2025/26, with the start of the new BA (hons) Architecture course and the role holders will contribute significantly to the delivery of excellent teaching and scholarly activity within the school. You will be joining an exciting new school with a clear intention to deliver a curriculum that is informed by sustainable and culturally aware architecture to a new generation of architects. That responds to the rich cultural context of the city of York and the University. This role will be particularly focussed on professional practice and developing students awareness of the role of the architect, regulatory requirements, practice management , stages of work and project development and delivery.

    It is expected that the postholder will liaise with other departments/schools across the university involved in the development and operation of the York School of Architecture to develop innovative curriculum content and student experience .

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • Knowledge of the role of the architect and professional skills of an architect with a working knowledge of the UK architecture practice context to inform the development of an innovative curriculum related to practice.

  • Professionally qualified architect

  • To support the development of teaching material for a range of teaching activities, including studio-based projects and lecture-based courses and ensure that the curriculum design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the Department and University.

  • To take responsibility for overseeing, developing and promoting innovative teaching and learning approaches and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students

  • To support with the design, development and delivery of a range of academic modules and ensure that design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the Department and University

  • To connect the student curriculum and experience with the professional practice and role of the architect

  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities
