Assistant Technical Manager/Technical Officer (holding the functional title of Engineer/Assistant Engineer) with NLP Focus in the School of Public Health (Ref.: 524535) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefit scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, with proven professional experience in natural language processing (NLP), specifically in the development and deployment of chatbot solutions; hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), demonstrating a deep understanding of their applications and limitations; as well as strong programming skills in languages (e.g., Python, Java or C++). They should also possess in-depth knowledge of AWS services and experience in deploying applications on the AWS cloud; be familiar with machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow or PyTorch); and experience with MLOps practices and Agile methodologies. Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in a team, and effective communication skills (with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders) would be valuable. Applicants with less experience will be considered as Technical Officer (holding the functional title of Assistant Engineer).
The appointee will be primarily responsible for (i) designing, developing, and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot solutions utilising NLP algorithms and models, with a focus on integrating and optimising LLMs; (ii) collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate chatbot capabilities into our existing and upcoming projects; (iii) utilising AWS proficiency to deploy and maintain scalable and efficient chatbot systems, ensuring seamless integration with LLMs; (iv) applying LLMs to enhance the sophistication and responsiveness of chatbot interactions; (v) implementing MLOps practices to streamline the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of chatbot models throughout their lifecycle; (vi) working within an Agile framework to iteratively develop and enhance chatbot functionalities, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements; (vii) staying current with the latest advancements in NLP, LLMs, MLOps, Agile methodologies and related technologies, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement; and (viii) conducting thorough analysis and testing to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of chatbot models, especially those incorporating LLMs.
