Assistant Professor of Humanities

Location: IA, United States · Reference: 446

The Humanities Department at Graceland University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Humanities to begin August 2027. Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric, English, Social Change, or a related field required by time of appointment.

We are looking for candidates who can support and lead our general education curriculum and contribute to majors in English, Social Change, and Sustainability Studies. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching success in two or more of the following areas: introductory and advanced composition, grammar and history of English, British literature, creative writing, and digital humanities. Additional experience in environmental studies, social justice, and/or communications and journalism a plus. The 4/4 teaching load will include composition, core English classes, and other courses based on the candidates experience and interests that appeal to both major and non-majors.

Demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to undergraduate teaching and service is required. We are looking for innovation-minded applicants who can 1) help grow and shape our programs and general education curriculum and 2) have demonstrated teaching excellence and collaborative and interdisciplinary commitment to undergraduate liberal arts.

Graceland University is a small, private liberal arts university, rurally located within an hour of Des Moines and two hours of Kansas City. Our faculty are committed to serving students from diverse populations, and the search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the University missions, including our commitment to radical belonging.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of recommendation (at least one of which addresses the candidate’s teaching) online by clicking Apply.  Send questions to Dr. Jake McGinnis ([email protected]).

Review of materials begins November 15 and continues until the position is filled. Graceland University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
