| Job Summary | Join a student-centered department at a scenic, public liberal arts university in the Appalachian Mountains, where you’ll help shape the next generation of computing professionals. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Concord University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science, beginning January 2027 or August 2027, depending on the candidate’s availability. We seek a passionate educator and collaborator who is excited to engage undergraduates and contribute to the growth of a tight-knit, collegial department. The department offers four computing degree programs:
Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, or a closely related field. Tenure-track appointments require a completed Ph.D. Master’s-level candidates are encouraged to apply and will be considered for non-tenure track positions; college-level teaching experience is preferred, and relevant industry experience will also be considered.Faculty teach a 12 contact-hour load per semester. With small class sizes (typically 15-20 students), teaching here is hands-on and relationship-driven, taking place face-to-face on our campus. New faculty members receive peer mentoring and support from our Center for Teaching and Learning. Additional support is available for mentoring undergraduate research, participating in faculty development, and leading student-centered initiatives. Faculty are expected to develop and teach a variety of courses across our computing programs. We welcome candidates with strengths in any of our program areas, including data analytics, cybersecurity, and platform-based software development, but we are especially interested in faculty who can teach broadly across the curriculum rather than within a single specialty. The successful candidate must be comfortable teaching fundamental computer science courses such as programming, algorithms, and systems. A willingness to grow into unfamiliar courses matters more to us than existing coverage of every topic. As a small department, every faculty member’s flexibility keeps all four programs strong. We are particularly interested in candidates who value teaching in a student-focused environment and can mentor undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. An undergraduate background at a small college is a plus, as it often reflects familiarity with the type of high-impact, relationship-based education we strive to provide. |
