Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor's degree programmes, a master's degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The department of Computer Science has a vacant position as Assistant Professor in Databases. The position is set to start 1.8.2024.

Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to
  • plan, develop, teach courses and supervise at Bachelor and Master level, in topics related to databases, app development and software development / programming.
  • actively contributing to the development of high-quality education.
  • actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as an institution.
  • perform academic administrative tasks.
  • Qualification requirements
  • Master's degree, or university degree equivalent to a Master's degree, in a field relevant to databases.
  • Good competence and knowledge about traditional and new database systems, such as distributed / cloud based databases, graph databases, NoSQL databases, serverless databases, etc.
  • Practical experience with data modelling for relational and non-relational data.
  • Written and oral proficiency in English. It is also an advantage with proficiency in a Scandinavian language.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment

    Emphasis will be placed on:
  • The applicant's teaching experience, pedagogical skills, and motivation for teaching and supervision at bachelor and master level.
  • Personal qualities that promote a good working environment.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching and research to the department's and OsloMet's needs, including ability to interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is a significant advantage.
  • OsloMet will test the candidates' educational qualifications in connection with interviews.

    The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet's pay policy for Assistant Professor in code 1009 corresponding to NOK 594 500 – 745 000 per year. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well- qualified applicants.
