About the Role

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a tenure track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to mainly support the BSc – Major in Environmental Science degree program.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program. The focus for the position will be on teaching existing courses in the Environmental Science program, developing new courses in support of that program, and potentially teaching courses within the Geology program. The successful candidate will develop/maintain an active research program. The ability to involve undergraduate students in research and the ability to attract external funding, while not necessary, are considered assets. Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in one or more of the following areas:

  • Environmental chemistry
  • Biogeochemistry
  • Environmental (including air) monitoring
  • Sustainable mineral resources
  • Critical zone science
  • The successful candidate for this position will hold a PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related field with a strong theoretical foundation in environmental science. In cases where the doctorate is in a “related field”, it is the candidate's responsibility to demonstrate sufficient expertise. Academic experience and relevant industry experience, especially in the area of regulatory management, will be considered significant assets for the position.

New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) focuses on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) focuses on teaching and service only. The successful candidate for this role will be hired into the teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS). There is an option to change work patterns after tenure.
