Assistant Manager (Public Affairs and Engagement) (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the Communications and Public Affairs Office of the Registry (Ref.: 531098)

The Communications and Public Affairs Office (CPAO) of the Registry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) enhances HKU's reputation through branding, events, digital communications, media relations, and more. The office is also responsible for University events and ceremonies, publications, both external and internal communications, crisis management and community engagement. We are looking for talented candidates to join the team.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Assistant Manager (Public Affairs and Engagement), you will:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Senior Manager/Manager to ensure that community/stakeholder engagement activities align with the University's objectives and support HKU's capital development projects;
  • Lead coordination efforts with partners and stakeholders to implement community engagement initiatives, organise events, and provide support during meetings;
  • Manage liaison work with project stakeholders and members of the public to foster positive relationships and ensure effective communication;
  • Collaborate with internal teams, departments, and external vendors to plan and execute publicity campaigns and stakeholder outreach programmes;
  • Develop and design communication materials for various platforms, including print, video, social media, and other digital channels;
  • Assist in planning and managing project schedules, budgets, and procurement processes to ensure timely delivery and adherence to requirements;
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the office, including occasional work outside regular office hours when needed; and
  • Coordinate with other teams for events and/or activities organised by CPAO.
  • Qualifications and Qualities:

    We are seeking a motivated individual who possesses the following skills and experience:

  • A recognised university degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a related discipline, with at least five years of experience in public affairs (experience in handling public enquiries would be an advantage);
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills in both English and Chinese, with exceptional attention to detail;
  • Proficiency in IT tools, including the MS Office Suite, graphic design tools, and GenAI technologies; experience with website CMS management and creating digital content is preferred;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a personable and professional demeanor;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage events, plan projects, and prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines;
  • A proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, capable of managing projects independently while thriving in a team environment;
  • Resilience under pressure and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment; and
  • Familiarity with District Council affairs and experience in the higher education or community service sectors would be a plus.
  • What We Offer:

    The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of the basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
