Assistant Institute Laboratory Manager
Join us at the world-leading CRUK Cambridge Institute. We're a unique
department of the University of Cambridge, core funded by Cancer Research UK's
charitable activities, and we're eagerly searching for our new Assistant
Institute Laboratory Manager.
As a senior leader within the Institute's Laboratory Management team, the role
holder will be required to:
Manage a floor laboratory support team and collaborate with other leaders
in the Laboratory Management department to ensure a cohesive service
across the institute for end point users.
Provision of an exceptional laboratory management service to a whole floor
at the Institute, managing the flow of work requests to ensure timely
delivery of laboratory services to end users.
Allocate and oversee work of research laboratory/technical services and
technicians to ensure works are completed in a timely and cost-appropriate
fashion.
Key responsibility for the management of health and safety on the floor,
in collaboration with research group leaders and the Institute Health &
Safety team.
Provide highly specialist technical advice to students/researchers on the
design of experiments and the specification of equipment or chemicals
required to undertake experimental activity, source suppliers and new
highly specialist equipment or solutions as required.
Maintenance and running of the laboratory. Instruct students/researchers
in the correct application, use and maintenance of equipment, laboratory
procedures and protocols e.g. correct safety procedures in handling
equipment, ensure risk assessments and protocols are maintained. Recognise
and analyse requirements for changes to laboratory layout and make
proposals for refurbishment or alteration.
Provide training (1:1 sessions or workshops as required) in the use of
equipment, instruments/chemicals, techniques and safe handling of
equipment and substances.
Where relevant, oversee laboratory refurbishment programme(s), co-
ordinate building and refurbishment schemes and maintenance programmes,
oversee projects from design meetings through to daily co-ordination of
work on site.
