The School of Media and Communication at Westminster is looking for an Assistant Head of School to lead our thriving Screen subject area, and to support growth in this area of the School. The Screen subject area includes our renowned BA Film, BA TV Production and BA Animation, as well as two MA programmes.

We are expanding our Screen portfolio with a new MA Business of Film that has recruited strongly in its first year, and plan to develop our offer relating to immersive media and virtual production. The successful candidate will help us consider the next stage of developing our Screen portfolio to reflect changing industry demands. Our courses are Screenskills and Bafta Albert accredited and have extensive industry links including with Aardman.

Our students' films are shown at festivals globally and have won awards including Royal Television Society Awards, a Student Academy Award and a Grierson Best Student Documentary Award. Our purpose-built facility in Harrow includes two large film and television studios, a set construction workshop, a 3D workshop, and extensive post-production facilities. We are developing Virtual Production, MoCap and immersive learning spaces at Harrow campus, as well as doubling the capacity of the Emerging Media Space, which includes XR and emerging technologies. These spaces are supported by specialist technicians.

The Assistant Head of School is a key post in the School Executive Team, and acts as a subject lead responsible for ensuring that the curriculum, learning spaces and learning technology in Screen are up to date, and equip our students with the skills they will need in the workplace. The Assistant Head is also responsible within their subject area for the smooth delivery of learning and teaching, and for line management and financial management.

We are looking for someone with both higher education and industry experience who can anticipate and analyse the potential of emerging technology trends, such as Virtual Production, and who can develop new avenues of academic research and innovative practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues both in our Screen subject area and across the wider School of Media and Communication to help achieve this vision. Experience developing BSc and MSc curriculum would be an asset.

The Assistant Head will also have the opportunity to continue some teaching and / or research in their field. Teaching in the School follows a fusion approach, being research-informed and practice-led. Teaching and research in the School are aligned with our world leading research institutes CAMRI and CREAM.
