Position Summary Information

Summary of Position

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions for Diversity and Access is responsible for identifying and cultivating university relationships with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in support of Elon's values and mission. The Assistant Director coordinates CBO outreach and creates pathway programs for university undergraduate admission. In addition, the position shepherds students in support of college admission in outreach programs including the Elon Academy, Freedom Scholars and Emerging Journalist Program. Finally, this position will also function as an admissions counselor with the corresponding responsibilities: event planning, territory management, application review and decision making.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and at least two years of enrollment, or related, experience. Demonstrated ability to connect with and support diverse student populations, including those identifying as African American/Black, Latino/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan Native and Multiracial (ALANAM). This also includes and is not limited to other areas of identified diversity on Elon's Campus. Clear competency of diversity and its values as it relates to higher education and in organizations. General Purpose of Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community-Based Organization Recruitment and Cultivation

  • Create a program of identification, outreach and cultivation with community-based organizations (CBOs) in support of Elon's undergraduate enrollment goals
  • Maintain accurate CBO database within Slate
  • Strategize with other territory managers to ensure CBOs visit goals are met during fall and spring travel seasons
  • Manage relationships with community-based organizations as a College Greenlight partner
  • Plan and implement a communication plan to increase the number of segmented messaging to students who participate in a CBO partnership.
  • Organize and hosts individual on-campus meetings and small-group receptions with visiting CBO leaders and students
  • Develop pathway programs for middle and high school-aged student to discover Elon in support of undergraduate student recruitment
  • Identifies and records students who are highly interested in Elon or who are a good fit
  • Assist with the execution of our annual Odyssey Program. This could include application overviews, file prep/review, and any events relating to the program.

  • Marketing/Communication

  • Collaborates with Director of Undergraduate Admissions for Diversity & Access to ensure all admission publications and websites dedicated to diversity recruitment are up-to-date, relevant, and innovative
  • Plans and implements a communication plan for diverse populations of students and their families to increase the number of applications and enrollees; assists with the development of appropriate publications to meet these goals
  • Identifies students interested in special programs or activities and takes necessary steps to ensure that they receive the appropriate information
  • Territory Management

  • Recruit from and increase yield in limited North Caroline admissions territory (i.e. Durham and Wake Counties)
  • Prepares independent travel schedule to include high school visits, CBOs, and KR2 college fairs, during an 2-3 week period, including fall and spring
  • Evaluates success of previous years' travel
  • With the Director, identifies and plans travel in new areas
  • Manages a personal expense report online via Elon's procurement card site
  • Campus Visit

  • Supports campus visit program by regular campus visit information sessions (including Saturday coverage) and meeting individually with prospective students and their families
  • Participate in special diversity-themed events, including ElonYOU, Phoenix Fusion, receptions and other engagement/recruitment events
  • Support and train admissions tour guide team in diversity, equity, and inclusion workshops
  • Assists with campus visits, group visitors, weekend events and other special events of the Admissions Office
  • Assists with the implementation of weekend events including Open Houses, orientation programs and scholarship weekends
  • Application Support

  • Assists with completing applications for underrepresented populations
  • Supports holistic review of application
  • Compiles and evaluates applications; consults high school guidance offices and students to complete files for decisions
  • Pulls completed files from assigned territory and completes the initial review of the application. Quotas to be read per day will be assigned on an as-needed basis, depending on the number of applications received
  • Participates in admissions committee meetings to finalize admitted students from both Early Action and Regular Deadline pools
  • Serves as the Counselor of the Day on a rotating basis, responsible for taking and following up on incoming calls from prospective students, family members and school counselors
