Job Summary Tenure-eligible Faculty Position in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies (PAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Kentucky is currently accepting applications for a full-time 12-month appointment, tenure-eligible faculty member at rank determined by qualifications in the Special Title Series, to begin employment on site at the Lexington or Morehead campus on or before July 1, 2027.

We invite you to become part of a supportive community of dynamic and dedicated faculty focused on being national leaders in Physician Assistant studies. Our well-established and nationally respected program offers an entry-level Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies and enrolls 56 students annually on two campuses in Morehead and Lexington, KY. The program is accredited by the ARC-PA. The PA Academic residency began in 2020 with residents training in six hospitals throughout Kentucky in a variety of sub-specialty sessions. Building on this strong foundation, the program has implemented an updated, integrated curriculum designed to strengthen connections among medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, communication, technical skills, and professional formation. Active and experiential learning are central to this approach, including an expanded focus on clinical simulation and standardized-patient experiences that help learners apply knowledge, practice clinical decision-making, and prepare for clinical practice. This commitment to educational innovation will be further supported by the University’s new Health Education Building, scheduled to open in Summer 2027.

We welcome applicants who want to join this unique program committed to the transformation of health care delivery through collaboration, innovation, educational excellence and focus on leadership. Please explore what our program has to offer by visiting the Department of Physician Assistant Studies website, https://www.uky.edu/chs/physician-assistant-studies.

Qualified candidates should display interest in excellence in teaching to meet the program mission in both the didactic and/or clinical components of the PAS curriculum. Participation in scholarly activities is expected and supported, along with university service activities. The approximate allocation of effort will be 55-80% instruction and 10-20% scholarship, with the balance in service and professional development. The successful candidate may also participate in clinical practice (up to 20% of effort) to provide direct evidence-based patient care as a licensed clinician in a clinical setting.

The College of Health Sciences strongly supports the Department and offers educational opportunities at various levels before and after PA school. The primary appointment for this position will be in the PA Master’s program. However, qualified candidates may also have opportunities to teach in the College’s undergraduate programs, PA Academic Residency program, and the interprofessional PhD program in Rehabilitation and Health Sciences. Additionally, PA faculty scholars will receive robust research support to advance their scholarly footprint.

The University of Kentucky and College of Health Sciences are dedicated to creating an environment where students, faculty and staff collaborate openly and treat one another with respect. We bring together many people into one community as we work toward our shared goal of advancing Kentucky through education, research, service and care.
