Duties :
The S.J. McKee Archives is hiring an Archives Student Assistant for the purpose processing and describing several medium-sized collections that have been acquired over the last decade. Duties include:
-physical processing of archival collections, including basic selection and culling; -development of arrangement and descriptions for archival collections that meet archival standards; -digitization of archival materials; -publication of online fining aids for archival collections using archival discovery systems; -and other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Qualificatons: strong research skills and experience working with primary documents, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, the ability to work independently and/or with others effectively, detail-oriented, punctual and reliable. Preference will be given to current Brandon Univeristy history students with strong academic standing – second year undergraduate level/standing is required with preference given to third year students.
Experience: completion of 54:341 Understanding Archives and/or 54: 437 Historiography & Historical Methods, previous archival work experience and a familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and DB/Textworks are all considered assets for the position.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as the physical ability to lift archival materials, bend to shelve and maneuver large heavy carts is required.
