We are now recruiting for a full-time, Associate Professorial Research Fellow to become a permanent member of Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies staff.

The Aston institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT) is one of the largest photonics research centres in the UK. It was founded on the unique combination of advanced fibre grating based devices with state of the art optical communications research, and has a proud track record of exploiting non-linear effects, from solitons to the nonlinear Fourier transform and from nonlinear optical loop mirrors to optical phase conjugation and parametric amplification. Today the AiPT pursues a diverse range of device-and-system- level topics at the leading edge of technology, including high-speed optical transmission, signal processing, wide-band amplification, nonlinear photonics, fibre grating technology, fibre lasers, bio- and medical photonics, and in various fibre optic sensing applications. AiPT maintains active and fertile collaborations with industrial companies and academic institutions throughout the world. It has recently successfully expanded its activities, with brand new 1800 square metre state of the art laboratories, including clean room (~160 square metres), and capital equipment, and is now seeking an outstanding research leader to join this growing team.

The Associate Professorial Research Fellow will develop an independent research group and will be expected to conduct internationally leading research in the field of photonics and to collaborate with existing research groups at AIPT. You will already hold a major UK research fellowship (UKRI FL Fellowship, RAEng Research Fellowship, Royal Society University Fellowship, EPSRC Fellowship) or the ERC award. You should hold active research grants and demonstrate the ongoing potential to secure substantial funding as PI and project leader. You will make a significant contribution to the effective management and leadership of research staff and students.

For informal enquiries about this position, please contact the AiPT Director, Professor Sergei Turitsyn ([email protected]) in advance of an application to discuss this opportunity and requirements.
