Salary : Starting at UH3 £22,681pa increasing to UH4 on successful completion of the apprenticeship

Location: College Lane and de Havilland Campus, Hatfield.

The Student Enquiries and Enrolment Team is the main point of initial contact for telephone, email and face to face enquiries from applicants, students, staff and visitors to the University. They move between the three Ask Herts Hubs, other University offices and both campuses as appropriate and per business needs.

The successful applicant will have a keen interest in meeting and interacting with people, assisting them with their enquiries as well as completing various administrative duties. Excellent communication skills and customer service is paramount for this role.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • You will act as the first point of contact for a range of customers, including applicants, current students, staff and the general public and providing a high level of customer service whilst managing enquiries through in person, telephone and digital communication means.
  • You will support an effective “front of house” service across the Ask Herts Hubs, assisting Hub visitors with queries and providing services to students, for example the production of ID badges and Biometric Residency Permit cards.
  • You will undertake a range of administrative tasks that support the student experience at the University. This includes (but is not limited to) producing student letters and council tax exemption certificates, approving parking permits and Oyster card travel applications.
  • You will also regularly access and navigate University systems and databases to support query management.
  • You will work closely with the Service Team Managers and interact regularly with colleagues across the Student Administration Service and other key stakeholders to build support communities for our students.
  • Skills and experience required

    Ideally you will have previous experience of working in a customer service- related environment, providing outstanding support to customers. You will have good IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, you will have a good understanding of customer care and the ability to put this in to practice. You will have a positive “can do” attitude, be flexible and adaptable to team requirements in your approach and you'll be motivated to learn new skills.

    Qualifications required

    GCSE Maths & English grade C/4 and above or equivalent.

    What kind of training will you receive?

    This is an 12 month apprenticeship programme where the successful applicant will undertake the Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship with a training provider and will require 20% of their time off-the-job-learning to complete their training activities within the workplace. This is supported by a workplace mentor and your line manager.

  • The candidate should not have undertaken any previous training which would duplicate the training they will receive under the apprenticeship.
