The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin , in conjunction with UT Health Austin and Central Texas Community Health Centers “CommUnityCare ,” seeks a board certified/eligible psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty focused on outpatient services. We seek a physician who will work with our community partners to participate in clinical and educational work that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond.

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide culturally informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.
To help us achieve these goals, we seek candidates who are committed to providing care within a diverse and growing community and have a strong record of providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope, and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives. A clinical assignment will occur through our department's collaboration with CommUnityCare within the Intensive Outpatient Care programs to provide consultation and direct care for patients suffering from comorbid conditions, including mental illness, addiction, homelessness and chronic medical conditions.
CommUnityCare is a large, multisite Federally-Qualified Health Center serving Travis County with a tenacious commitment to equitable health care. Through their Healthcare for the Homeless programming, CommUnityCare offers treatment through specialized clinics, mobile clinics at community sites, shelter-based clinic, and a street medicine program. Treatment is person- centered, collaborative and team based. The outpatient psychiatrist will add expertise to the existing team of talented and dedicated clinicians, who attend to both medical and social determinates of health.
In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and primarily within the Addictions Recovery and Healthcare for the Homeless teams, the psychiatrist is responsible for providing direct and appropriate mental health care to adults with mental illness and co-occurring disorders (substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and medical illness) within the CommUnityCare system. As a member of the clinical team, psychiatrists provide direct care to referred patients via face-to-face visits or telehealth, which includes video visits. The psychiatrist may be asked to supervise advanced practice providers working in mental health in accordance with Texas Medical Board regulation and CommUnityCare Policy.
The department has a strong commitment to leading efforts to expand delivery of evidence based, innovative mental health services within the community. There will be significant opportunities for the candidate to The successful candidate's appointment within the department requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents. In addition, the psychiatrist will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing development of training programs and collaborations that allow for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming and research initiatives. Additional opportunities to expand and lead community based partnerships with state and local jurisdictions are also available. Additional partnership with the Outpatient Adult Psychiatry Clinic at UT Health Austin and opportunities for research activity are also available and would be encouraged.
