  • Position Summary:

    UAF Bristol Bay Campus is seeking temporary instructional tutors for the Alaska Adult Education Program. Location: Bristol Bay Region communities.

    Duties:

    100● Maintain safe, supportive, student-focused, trauma sensitive and professional learning environments ● Administer assessments for adult students and community agencies ● Create or follow and deliver lesson plans according to student needs ● Record, track, and report student progress on a timely manner ● Maintain and update student records and contacts information in a secure environment ● Collaborate with coordinator, instructors, local agencies and community organizations as well as family members to provide holistic and thorough student supportEssential

    Rural community tutors provide scheduled instruction and tutoring to adult learners in the Bristol Bay Region. The tutor conducts assessments, develops study plans, and provides instruction in subjects including, but not limited to: math, reading, writing, science, social studies, English language acquisition, GED Test preparation, computer skills, and college and career readiness. Tutors are supervised by the Adult Education Program Coordinator.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Good academic standing Comfortable with public speaking. Some experience in formal or informal teaching. Knowledgeable in creating PowerPoint presentations.

    Typical Experience:

    ● Ability to recognize learning needs, identify appropriate resources, and provide instructions for adult learners ● Ability to encourage and reinforce positive learning attitudes ● Ability to work with learners of diverse socio-economic, cultural, and academic backgrounds

    Required Education or Training:

    ● High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma required ○ TABE or Locator placement qualifying Reading & Math scores (Locator A or Reading 600+ and Math 630+) ● 20+ academic credit from accredited college/university preferred ● Bachelor's degree strongly preferred

    Salary Information:

    This is a part-time, 9-month, non-exempt temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA temporary staff salary schedule, Grade 2775, based on education and experience.
