Adjunct Instructor: Core Curriculum - Statistics

The Core Curriculum and Mathematics programs at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), along with its affiliate, Mount Mercy University (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) seek qualified applicants to serve as adjunct instructors for a Statistics course in the Core Curriculum.

By applying, candidates will be considered for inclusion in an adjunct faculty pool. Positions are filled on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on programmatic needs.

Course Details and Format

Specific course assignments and formats, including online and face-to-face instruction, vary by semester based on teaching needs. Openings develop on a periodic basis.

We are seeking candidates with expertise and interest in teaching the following course:

  • STAT 145. Introductory Statistics fulfills the Mathematical Inquiry Core requirement. This introductory statistics course teaches students to organize, visualize, and summarize data, then apply probability concepts to address the enduring question: "How can we use probability and statistics to tell if something is just random or actually meaningful"? Students learn to conduct hypothesis tests, interpret data visualizations, and evaluate statistical claims with appropriate skepticism, using technology tools to draw evidence-based conclusions for real-world decision-making. This course requires students to have basic proficiency through high school algebra.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must hold a master's degree or have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in the specific subject area or a closely related field. Preference may be given to applicants with prior teaching experience.

Due to state employment regulations, candidates must reside in one of the following authorized states to be considered for online adjunct teaching assignments: AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, ND, SD, TX, VA, WV, or WI. Candidates who reside outside of these states may not be eligible for appointment.

Our Mission

St. Ambrose University and its affiliate campuses, including Mount Mercy University, are an inclusive, Catholic, and diocesan community of learners. Together, we empower all members of our community to act courageously, seek wisdom through faith and reason, work for justice and mercy, and lead lives of service.

The Core Curriculum seeks to advance this mission by preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding to work courageously to create a just future.

St. Ambrose University and its affiliated institutions are equal opportunity employers.
