The School of Health Sciences at Salt Lake Community College is committed to providing quality education in nursing and allied health fields, ensuring each graduate is ready to enter the healthcare profession. Experienced and clinically prepared faculty, along with hands-on experience in a variety of clinical settings, allow students to become skilled in the science of healing and the art of compassion and ready to serve their community. All of the programs offered in the School of Health Sciences at Salt Lake Community College are a part of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Respiratory Therapy Lab Assistant is employed in the Healing Arts Lab at the Jordan Campus and aides in selecting, setting up and cleaning up all supplies for the learning labs. Will assist faculty in reinforcing skills to Respiratory Therapy students.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

A.Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization. B.Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. C.Work closely with department peers and administrator to understand processes and procedures that lead to becoming a successful teacher and contributing member of the academic unit. D. Promotes development of critical thinking among students. E. Uses appropriate resources and technology in the delivery of courses F.Maintains professional and collegial behavior. G. Completes all required training H. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure. l. Promotes support for the mission, vision, values and goals of the College by incorporating culturally‐ competent pedagogy and inclusivity practices. J. Tutoring of Respiratory Therapy student lab skills and aid in organization of the learning tools and environment. K. Clean and recycle supplies used for continuous learning practice. L. Assist in ordering supplies. M. Assist in equipment maintenance. N. Other Duties as Assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

  • Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
  • Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
  • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
  • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
  • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
  • Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
  • Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
  • Maintains professional and collegial behavior
  • Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‐2 days)
  • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure
  • Completes all required employee trainings
  • Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
  • Provides ADA accommodations as requested
  • Other job related duties as needed
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Assistant must hold current RTT licensure through the NBRC and current RCP license in the State of Utah.

    Associate Degree.

    Currently working as an RTT.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Prior skills in stocking, ordering and preparation of a Respiratory Therapy lab. Understanding of Respiratory Therapy educational learning scenarios. Prior teaching experience BS Degree

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Ability to work in a fast-paced simulation lab with undergraduate students and faculty. Knowledge of required respiratory equipment.

    High level communication skills Knowledge of medical patient scenarios and patient care for RTT professionals.

    Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester by semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment. 3. Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire. 4. In accordance with Board of Regents policy, SLCC's Human Resources will conduct a criminal background check on instructors if concurrent enrollment (K-12) students are assigned to classes.
